What do you think?

This game is really fun! The only thing it lacks imo is replay value - you know, more game modes, levels, player progression, etc. Other than that, great arcad-ish kind of game!

Nice game. It would be nice to motivate player to play it even longer with some cool features later in game. I guess that somewhere around 1500 to 2000 is a right time for a new "game changing" feature. Something like gold dot that does "don´t know what". :-D Or purple dots that are nice if you get them in time (give you more score), but will explode when you don´t. Something like this.

Love the update!

Neat game! I think it could use a little more diffi

PSA: Since GameJolt still doesn't support Android directly (I mean, srsly? ) and the game is not worthy being released on Play Store, you gotta download the APK through the THREE DOTS next to the Windows download link.

The concept of this game is an ancient idea, dating almost decades back, when I was just a lil' kiddo playing with Game Maker. It has rested in an eternal slumber, until I needed something to learn MonoGame on...

So, here comes UMO!

Download and play the game here, or do the same on your Windows Phone device here (link to Microsoft Store). (lol who uses that anymore...)

But what's the deal?

The game is very simple, focused on getting as much points, as possible. You play as a square amidst other identical squares - the basic idea is the player getting lost in a crowd. The points are awarded for picking up "food", much like in the old Nokia Snake. The longer you play, the faster and harder the game gets and the more points you are awarded - or not, depends on how fast and focused you are.

There are currently two game modes available, Endurance and Arcade.

In Endurance, you just have to keep eating (and gaining points!) while racing against a countdown. If you don't eat when the countdown ends, you lose a life - until you die. Very Snake-ish.

In Arcade, things get a bit more interesting. You now lose lives only if struck by an evil red square or a laser. You can gain a life, slow the game down, destroy other squares or gain extra points by picking up a power-up. This and a few other events are spawned randomly.

To control the game, you need arrow keys, enter and escape, or an XBox 360 gamepad. It actually also supports touch controls, but those weren't tested on desktop, as I'm not a millionaire to buy MS Surface. The menu can be controlled with mouse.

Since version 0.4.3, you can now mute the music by pressing M and adjust the global sound volume by PageUp and PageDown keys. These options won't be available in the WinPhone version, obviously, so that's why I did it in such a lazy way. I actually did it for myself, because the music was getting annoying, but whatevs, enjoy.

Current version:

The game is now available for Windows Desktop (requires .Net Framework 4.5 and the latest DirectX - reinstall those if the game won't run), Windows Phone and Android. UMO features simple arcade graphics, some fake shaders and fake particles (as I don't understand shaders and there's no complete solution available, and as I'm too lazy to make my own particle system and there's no complete solution available - update: I know how to do shaders now, but meh ), simple sounds generated by Bfxr and great music by Kvejk. Look him up.

Android version here! Yay!

I figured I'd dust off that ol' Monogame and give Android a try. Since I'm a professional Android developer and all that. So the game's ported, but there will be no further development, because, honestly, who cares lol.

Version 1.0, the game is done for now!

Update 0.5.0 out! We're getting there!

Update 0.4.3 out! Featuring new menu

New version with leaderboards!
