After all these years of following SlijmWesly's project over the years, I have been amazed of the development progression. So here are some screenshots from footage shown of the game from 2016 to 2022!
First version Wesly had shown to us in 2016, as of right now the game is pretty bare bones and seems more like a test of the game engine that Wesly was using at the time!
The second version that was also in 2016, it seems that Wesly at the time was more comfortable with the game engine and the coding and was starting to create his own textures and artwork for the game! Although the artwork was pretty basic and odd looking, whether that was because he was still testing around with stuff or hadn't had much artwork experience at the time is unknown...
Come 2017 Wesly adopted the name of PVZ 3 for his fangame, here we see that his artwork has improved the plant sprites in particular. We also see that he is able to code bossfights and conveyor levels!
All through 2017 Wesly adds more plants and worlds to PVZ 3, while also improving on the sprites, artwork and other things! Wesly was also able to add plantfood to the game!
In late 2017, PVZ 3 was beginning to shape-up into a more "finished" game! Not only did we see more complex coding but we saw nicer and more detailed graphic designs, especially on the zombies! Wesly also gave us some sneak peeks of some of the game's quests!
Within the final days of 2017, Wesly gave us the privilege of showing us some of the development progress via a few live streams!
All through 2018 the art style didn't seem to change dramatically, Wesly seemed more focused on adding new plants zombies and coding! We also got a sneak peak at some custom soundtracks for the game by Flip The Fan!
Also in 2018 Wesly changed the name of the game from PVZ 3 to PVZ: Dimensional Destruction! Stating that he didn't want people to think his game was a bad rip-off if an official PVZ 3 were ever to pop up!
In November of 2018, Wesly announced the new release of the game. The update would soon release!
But then.... something horrible happened.... The game engine got corrupted meaning the game had to be remade and would not be release during it's initial release date! But it may have been for the best, because of the fact that Wesly had the opportunity to redo everything better than ever before!
In April of 2019, Wesly showed off a new version of the game. And this new version was the best one yet! Everything improved, from the artstyle to the coding to even the concepts and UI!
(Oh yeah the lawn art style changed again midway through the new development lol)
In October of 2020, Wesly released the Public Pre-Alpha Announcement trailer, saying the version was to release soon! And the Alpha eventually released! (I don't really know the general time the alpha released but it was likely sometime soon after the release of the trailer...)
All through late 2020 to 2022 news updates were shared on the progress of the game, with Redhead Gaming making the news more public to the community via his YT channel! At this point we could see the art style really go through great improvement! Which I loved seeing!
And just about 1-2 months ago some of the biggest development progress the game had in a long time! The cancellation of PVZ: Dimensional Destruction!
You may be wondering how that is a good thing, well it was announced that the game was being cancelled in favor for a new game; PVZ: Dimensional Destruction PLUS!! The new game was going to use an all new engine, HD graphics and a whole new team behind it! The original PVZ: Dimensional Destruction was not dead yet though, the game was going to be a Demo version and will eventually receive the big update that has been in the works for the last year or so!
About 2 months ago the @Dimensional_Team game jolt and YouTube profile was created! Posting all kinds of dev diaries and progress on the game! Even showing a new art style for the PVZ: DD PLUS game!
So in general, PVZ: Dimensional Destruction has had a pretty complex and unique history! And I cannot wait to see what the game will become and have to offer!
Thank you to all the people working on the game! I can't wait to see what you all do with it! And thank you for going through this review of the history of PVZ: DD!!!
