There's a lot I want to say so bare with me if you want to.
I have to say, Undead Army cutting contact with all of us in the team and such has been a tough pill to swallow. Although I never really made myself known on this Game Jolt page apart from one old post, I've always been one of the important backbones to the project on the technical side of things and some additional modeling support since 2019.
I always had a sneaking suspicion that the game would end up cancelled in the end. The game was always beyond the scope of what we all could do. It was always getting remade which is why there are more render showcases of the characters instead of gameplay most of the time since the team wasn't sure how to approach it. It even got the point where I made this over two years ago:
Why the Game Ultimately Failed
There are two reasons why the game ultimately failed. I have to state this as a reminder, please do NOT harass Undead. They were naive as many of us are when first making a game.
Game Design Document
The importance of a game design document cannot be understated. It is the MOST important part of game development that every single developer should take seriously. This game didn't have one until 2021!
@Parsa_Bakhshi Has always been on Undead about the amount of animatronics the game had and the general direction of the game until the end. He is the reason why there was a game design document made and even managed to convince her to remove some characters back in 2021 as well. Only to then have them added back anyway 4 months later. The document was used until around a year ago when the team realized Clickteam Fusion 2.5 was not the way to go. If we kept using the engine, we would've hit the ram limit among other technical issues. The team decided on switching to GameMaker Studio 2 and revamped the design document. Which is when everything essentially fell apart.
College
Undead started going to college, which eventually slowed things down. They were still active from time to time until eventually going dead silent for a while. Came back for a short time, then went dead silent and never returned. You know the rest.
Last but Not Least
Undead Army was one of the nicest and among one of the most dedicated 3d modelers I've ever had the chance to meet (The details are insane!). They are a huge inspiration for me and I'm sure to a lot of others as well with the many showcases.
I know she probably won't ever see this, but I will miss you. The many times we played Minecraft and helped each other out will always have a special place in my heart. I wish you the best in whatever plans you have.
I hope some of you developers can take something out of this if possible.
