A New Journey!

Greetings, fellow Backrooms: Escape From Reality fans!

I would like to share some things with you all that I have been meaning to say since the original version of the game was released a little more than 2 days ago.

I have received a lot of mixed (and well-detailed) reviews, which I am extremely thankful for receiving from you all.

After reading these reviews, a lot of people praised this game for its good visuals and straightforward mechanics, which I was more than delighted to see! Especially since this is the first proper game I have shipped (I'm only 17 bro )!

However, I noticed that all these reviews had one thing in common: The game is quite tedious/boring to sit through, and lacks motivation to continue, especially during earlier sections of the game.

I can honestly see why players would give up after dying once.

As something I would like to share with you all. This game has a lot more history to it. This game has actually been reworked from the ground up over 4 times over 3 years (which is why its taken so long to release a short game). Mainly due to me having so many ideas that I didn't know how to end them or tie them together.

And to be honest, I never expected this game to get this far. Which I talked about in the dev note at the credits of the game (SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T BEATEN THE GAME YET)

As a result, I didn't want to give up after releasing V1 of this game.

So, to elaborate, the V1.1 update I talked about a few days ago has been officially upgraded into a V2 remake!

Just to clear up, this will NOT be another ground up remake. But has way more content to be a simple minor update.

This V2 overhaul aims to fix a lot of boredom issues, as well as reintroduce some old ideas of the past to let this game shine to its true potential!

What To Expect In The V2 Update?

This overhaul will add a lot of many different features, such as:

  • Mechanics being revamped and having actual risks to them to prevent players from relying on them too much.

  • More lore being revealed throughout the main gameplay to motivate players to push forward and keep going.

  • Probably some more graphical updates and code optimisation.

  • Less waiting.

And a lot more that I cannot fit onto this list! But I'll give you a small example of what to expect in this update, which I shared without much elaboration yesterday.

The flash beacon now has a limited battery that must be manually charged, instead of just waiting for a beep. Making players fear mistakes in this game unlike anything else!

I'll conclude this dev-log before I start rambling off-topic!

I'll be taking my time for this update to make it as polished and fun as possible. In the meantime, please continue to leave more reviews and criticise the current build of this game, as they'll help me a lot! I hope this update brings this game back together for ya'll!

Merry Christmas to you all, and have a happy New Year!

Reality Is Absent.

Game is probably around 98% done. Pretty much just testing and bug fixing left.

See you guys on the 23rd!

This was originally supposed to be leaked later, but since I gotta focus on my HSC I might as well show you an early version of the main menu! (not final and subject to change)
