Multiplayer spin-off ideas - Planned for the 5th spin-off!
Akira here!
You see, some Touhou games, such as Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dream, Phantasmagoria of Flower View, and the recent fighter games, have multiplayer capabilities. I also have the idea of multiplayer games dancing in my brain for quite a while now, and I decided to plan to put it in the 5th spin-off, which will take place after the 5th main game!
But WARNING: Spoiler below!
Basically, the game is about the tengu main character of the spin-off series, who is elected as the new leader of the Slums, after its previous (currently current) leader, Reira, resigned from the position after being attacked by Kaiki in the fifth main game and decided to lead a religious life. And she have to team up with one of the other main protagonists of the series (along with some other youkai characters I created for this game), who is controlled by the other player, to defend against some youkai who wants to force her to step down and then take the role of the leader theirselves, so as to put a harsh regime on the residents of the Slums.
I’m going to use Pixel Game Maker MV to create this, since it has the ability to create multiplayer games for up to 4 players, and I’m planning this to be for 2 players. But using PGMMV means that the supported platforms might be restricted to Windows (but future updates of the engine might add support for other platforms, however, we are not sure about this, so just assume that the supported platform (s) will be Windows only), and there will be no Vietnamese translation of the game (but there might be a Japanese translation of the game, since PGMMV have support for that language by default).
Basically since the storyline of that game will be defending the main character’s position as the new leader of the Youkai Slums, the game might be geared towards the tower defense and tactical role-playing game genres (although the latter genre I can use the SRPG Studio engine to create the game in that genre (Steam link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/857320/SRPG_Studio/), but only if it is intended to be a singleplayer game).
Since I cannot ask my brother to play test my games, I’m planning to give each “player” object in that game different keyboard / gamepad controls, so that I can control both characters at the same time without the need of the second play-tester. Also this feature also allows some players to play the game as a single player, but as if there are two players playing the game simultaneously. I will make this feature gears towards loners, who prefer to don’t have a gamer playmate to play this game with (like me).
I know that I might spoiled too much in this post, but TBH, there would be more fun if I make and release a multiplayer game for you to enjoy. Also, if you wants something new in my games, then the idea of having me creating a multiplayer game at some point in the future will be a good idea!
OK, I almost return home after a grueling journey through unknown empty paths right now, so the first thing I will do after I return home is to add a series comparison table (comparing things such as supported platforms, gameplay mechanics, etc.) to my game series’ Wiki, and spending time playing the WBaWC demo, aiming to clear the demo without continues as Youmu.
See you later!
