Experimenting With New Techniques
If you read my last Pixels in Progress, you'd know one of my techniques for pixel art is to take an existing image and trace over it, then coloring or detailing or whatnot. This piece was not made using that technique, instead, I tried something new. To make this piece, I found an existing image of Susie for reference, and mapped out the general shapes of the design. Below you can see the reference image (top) and the very rough sketch of my design (bottom).
After outlining my idea, I compared the reference image to the current piece constantly, adding a new bit of detail each time until I got something similar to the image below.
After coloring and shading and tweaking, I got the final product. The background was added afterwards, using a reference image for the Haltmann Works Co. hallways. The pink shadows were added at the end to try to give it a bit of a "towering over you" feeling.
