“A version of Lake retrofitted from his earlier Funland incarnation (found half destroyed after the Fire of 94) to serve purely as security at the Sunshine’s location, various staff report strange things happening around this animatronic. Not aggressive unless provoked, this mascot always seems to be in the corner of your eye, watching, waiting, waiting for something… or someone.

Just looking at him invokes a feeling of apprehension for some unexplained reason…”

Lore:

After the Funland burned only Lake and Alice were left, Haiden/Lucas having already escaped with Ashley, Lake found Haiden’s hat (discarded by Haiden to sever his ties with the Funland) in the ruins of the Funland and vowed to take revenge on Tomochii, anyone connected to Oscar Magwood and the Handshaker itself. But he also swore to find Haiden again, no matter how long it took. Lake would see Haiden, Ashley and the spirit that protected them both, Lucas, again.

Harlan had already left Lake at this point and moved on to eventually be reincarnated as Harlan Ashton Walker, though the Handshaker and the possession by Harlan left its mark on Lake. Over the time the Handshaker had possessed him Lake has absorbed some of its powers somehow, which only grew stronger over the years. The fire enabled them to manifest as unique abilities exclusive to Lake, making him a pseudo-demon at first and then a full demon once Sunshine’s was completed, though his body was badly damaged and like Alice he had to be rebuilt. Though his astral form, due to gaining a sort of soul due to exposure to two different types of possession and various supernatural powers, is free to wander and appear to people with greed or desperation in their hearts.

Lake would eventually call himself the Chessmaster due to his love of playing games with the people he made deals with, promising them the ability to get out of their deals but taking the price of those deals anyway. While his games are fair you can cheat provided you found the loopholes and he can play any game from board games to video games to games kids play on the playground.

Though there’s only a select few people Chessmaster Lake refuses to touch with his deals and games, and trying to harm them is an instant death sentence…

After a long time, I’ve finally designed Chessmaster Lake (the animatronic version at least, the human version, with its own version of the lore, is on its way) for the Magic Hour Arc of the Haunted Haiden Au.

(Yes, that ring around Lake’s finger is a promise ring, more of a personal promise he made to himself that he would see Haiden again.)
