Closing an avenue to open another

Hi all! Most of you probably expected to hear this announcement at some point. If you didn't, I'm sorry for blindsiding you...

I'm deciding to cancel development on VillageRPG. But, you can play what's there of the game, as I'm providing the first ever link to download and play the game yourself in its current state. Obviously it's super-hyper-unfinished, but I didn't want to keep the game exclusively on my hard drive to forever collect digital dust.

Why? A lot of reasons, funnily enough. Here, I'll even make a nice organized list for you!

1. I'm 20!
2. The scope of this game easily exceeded the scope of what I knew I could reasonably do. I know *how* to make all of the complex systems I wanted to make for the game, but actually maintaining them and having them be fun and have them exist in the game in a way that makes sense was impossible. I knew that, I just didn't want to fully come to terms with it.
3. I want to move on. I'm tired of making games in RPG Maker. This isn't a double announcement post also saying Alex RPG is cancelled, however - I still want to make that game because it's feasibly possible, and it's telling an interesting story, one of which I hadn't considered yet when it came to my games.
4. Obviously... this isn't sustainable. Using Minecraft characters and making all of these games be for free is something I do out of the love of my heart, and the passion in my conscience, but it doesn't move me forward in life. If I keep putting my time and resources into something like this, which I know I can't receive anything back from, at some point it starts to feel like I'm wasting my time.

To go back to my first point and elaborate some more - I don't think it's bad if you have a case like mine. 20 something in their bedroom, making Minecraft RPGs knowing it's not sustainable. As long as you're happy doing what you're doing, keep doing it. If it feels like there's a point to make, if it feels like there's a reason why it should exist - chase that. YOLO, as the kids say...

For me, personally, I know I'm not going to be happy sticking to these limitations. RPG Maker can certainly be a powerful tool if you know how to use it right! But I know that I am a creative mind, and I have a lot of different ideas for a bunch of different prototypes of a bunch of different video games in a bunch of different genres. Sticking exclusively to this formula until the day I die isn't going to be very fun. And, I fear it may also introduce burn out from the genre, which is something I *really* don't want as I love RPGs and JRPGs. It's my favorite video game genre of all time, even despite how primitive and "boring" the gameplay can be.

Anyways... that's all. Thanks for sticking around. Hey, while you're here, check out Backside of the TV - oh, and you're gone.
