Its is the late 1960's, as the world situation evolves, The Great Hakurei Barrier can no longer protect Gensokyo from the outside world, influences from Japan, the Greater German Reich, Ordenstaat Burgund, and the Organization of Free Nations led by the United States as well as various Russian successor states now have vetted interests in the magical land of youkai. But one shrine maiden stands in the way of these foreign designs...Reimu Hakurei.

Based on the world of the Hearts of Iron 4 mod, "The New Order: Europe's Final Days" is a new Touhou Project RPG filled with intrigue, adventure, and nuclear weapons.

An RPG Maker game from yours truly that combines turn based battles and dungeon crawling with the grand strategy of HOI4.

THE PLOT


Reimu Hakurei and her magician friend Marisa Kirisame investigate a small incident in a cave where they find an OFN Agent tasked with investigating Gensokyo's potential. From there Reimu is dragged into a political conflict where she must keep Gensokyo's head above water as the various nations of the world try to undermine Gensokyo for their benefit, such as the economically tenuous Japanese Empire, a recovering Greater German Reich, a self-reinventing United States, and several others. Will Reimu keep Gensokyo free? Or will she succumb to the battle of ideology or will Gensokyo end up in a Thermonuclear fire? That is what you'll have to decide.

The game will be broken up into seven episodes each with a different youkai incident each caused by a different nation involved from TNO. Completion of all seven episodes unlock a final eighth which has a different ending based on ingame decisions such as ideology association and other small things. This may very well be Gensokyo's final incident...

GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS


World Tension:
From HOI4 is World Tension or just Tension since everything is kept inside of Gensokyo. Tension is portrayed as a percentile number (0% - 100%). Different events and sidequests can increase it or decrease it but must be kept in check at all times! In this game if tension goes over 99% well...this happens.

Political Power and Decisions:
Political Power or PP are special points that can earned through various means and can be used to trigger special decisions both of which are important HOI4 mechanics. These decisions can unlock sidequests, special events or change the various aspects of Gensokyo. Much like how it works in Hearts of Iron 4.

Economy and Crafting:
You can build two types of factories, Civilian and Military. Factories work different here than in HOI4 due to RPG Maker MZ being made for RPGs and such. Civilian Factories generate money and can be used to increase Gensokyo's GDP which currently has no function right now and to unlock recipes for healing and other items. Military factories unlock new crafting recipes but for Weapons and Armor and offensive items.

Crafting is here instead of weapon/armor production system used in HOI4 because I don't think any plugin developer is interested in my ideas for bringing HOI4 stuff into RPGM. For weapons and armor there are six ingredients: Oil, Steel, Aluminum, Tungsten, Rubber and Chromium. Light armor use steel, medium uses Steel and Tungsten, and heavy armor uses Steel and Chromium. Magical armor uses aluminum and rubber and mech armor requires oil alongside the other metals.

Doctrine:
Doctrines are special research that gives passive bonuses and skills. There are four types:

Mobile Warfare focuses on increase Speed and Attack with skills focused on speedy physical attacks.
Superior Firepower increases MP and MAT with special magic skills that focus on blasting enemies to bits with magic.
Grand Battleplan increases DEF and MDF with the focus being on support and defensive attacks.
Mass Assault increases HP and Luck with the idea of absorbing hits and swarming enemies with your body.

Doctrines are a major part of the HOI4 experience so its here in RPG form.

Ideology:
Party popularity is a mechanic in HOI4 that decide who your leader is and what your ideology is. To fit with the Touhou world, there are four gods each representing Democracy, Communism, Fascism, and Non-Aligned. By making one of these four gods your main ideology will give different bonuses but will affect the ending in the eighth episode of the game.

TNO adds more ideologies such as Authoritarian Democracy, Burgundian System and others and these subtypes are accessible in the eighth episode and will also affect the ending, a good chunk of which are all bad endings.

Super Events:
Super Events are a TNO mechanic in which major worldwide events have a special window with special text with a special BGM or ME that plays. Because no plugin developer will touch me with a ten foot pole these windows are confined to the game's endings.

Visustella and Capser Gaming plugins will work and if anyone is interested in making plugins for me that make more of the HOI4 mechanic more doable so I don't have to make numerous longwinded common events, feel free to ask. Also the game currently is not in development and is still in the pre-production phase so don't expect this to come out as a fully developed complete game.

EPILOGUE


This project would be an experiment in bringing grand strategy elements to what is essentially a bog standard turn based JRPG. But perhaps this will become a very different Touhou game from what is the norm.
