Daily Update #3


Hi guys!

This daily update is a bit earlier than the previous ones (this one was made almost as soon as I got up while the others are made at night), but this is because I was up last night for quite a while contemplating UPPERTALE and it’s storyline.

For multiple reasons I love and hate it.

I love it because it’s still quite humorous (or should I say humerus) and you get to spend a little bit more time with these characters and there’s so many secrets in the game and I’d hate to get rid of them by restarting the game again!

However, I hate it because I kept thinking I could do better but I’m not really sure I can.
UNDERTALE really should have ended where it did, but undertale-trash me decided it needed an unofficial sequel and now many people look forward to it.

I’m not saying I won’t release it, I still am. What I’m trying to say is that some of you might not like the story or how I’ve done it, but some of you might.

The game is also pretty short, depending on your skill level.
If you’re like me and played UNDERTALE a lot you probably have gotten used to the battle system and can dodge pretty easily. If you’re like that a normal run of the game (either Pacifist or Neutral) will only last you 40 minutes. And Genocide is currently estimated to last maybe 20-30 depending on how hard the final boss is. So if you were to play Pacifist, Neutral and Genocide it would probably only last about 1 hour and 40 minutes. There is another ending in the game you can get which might boost the time to 2 hours, however.

That’s another thing I wanted to discuss. The final boss of genocide for UPPERTALE.
You see, the way I’ve programmed battles is that it randomly selects one of four moves for that character, so the final boss of genocide will only have 4 moves and it will randomly select one of them each turn. Who knows, this might make it harder, or maybe easier. It depends. I’m sorry if the lack of moves disappoints anyone, but this is the first RPG I’ve ever actually made, I’m bound to make mistakes.

So yeah, that is pretty much what’s been on my mind.

I’ve written about 9 different story plans for UPPERTALE at this point in my notepad and frankly I give up trying to come up with a new one. This is the best I can do.

But hey, it’ll be better than the old UPPERTALE so atleast there’s that.

Last but not least, I want to answer the question: “Why am I rushing UPPERTALE?”
Well, the reason for that is for my birthday I am finally getting the full, paid version of game maker after 3-4 years of using the free version. I am very, very excited to use it and I want to start making my own original games. I don’t want to make fan-games of anything anymore, it just stresses me out xD UPPERTALE will be my last game I ever make with the free version, and hopefully my last fan-game ever too.
