Daylight Cycle, Campground Map, & More


I could've have made this post roughly about 3 weeks ago but was too lazy, anyways I've made lots of progress, so much that the text would take up too much space in the video, so you can find info about something in the video based on the number in the bottom left hand corner.

1 . Daylight Cycle

I have created a basic daylight cycle for the game, I haven't decided on how long day/night will be, but depending on what time it is the ghosts will be more or less active, during daytime there will be little sign that they are even there, and the day time can be used for setting up equipment and preparing for the investigation without worrying about dying. The shadows are a little bit weird currently as both the sun and moon are effecting them at the same time, which I am working on fixing.

2 . Ground Vans

Unlike the last vehicle system, these vehicles will hopefully not launch themselves into space, I am still working on it and it will be much easier to drive around in the final game, as you can see in the video tipping over is very easy. There will be multiple different vehicles that will have different uses, they will play a key part during investigations and you will have to choose the right vehicle for the job. Ghosts will not be limited to the location they are haunting, and may even try following you back to your office.

3 . Map

I have begun work on the map, currently only the campground has been started and a very small portion of the mountains, the entire map will be accessable without any loading screens, and you will have to drive from location to location, keep in mind all the models you see in the video is not mine, and is only placeholders until I make my own.

4 . Space

It exists, you won't be able to go there when the game is released, but I thought it was cool.

5 . Locations

When you enter or exit a location you will there will be a loading screen most likely, I will experiment with smooth transitions between locations and the main map, however it would most like be laggy.

6 . Items

I have implemented a new item system, multiple items can now exist in one map, previously if there were 2 items, only 1 could be picked up, eventually there will be an inventory system and you will be able to hold multiple items. I have also added 2 new items, the Lighter and Smudge Stick, its pretty simple, to light the smudge stick you must have the lighter in your inventory, and when lit the ghost will no longer be able to see you for a short time. I have also started working on the Time Capsules, however it has proven to be slightly more difficult than I thought.

Finally, the biggest change of all, I have updated the game to unity version 2023.1.0a26, which it was previous on version 2020.3.26f1. This is important as before I couldn't added grass or folliage to the map, next time you can expect the map to look a lot better, and the 2023 version of unity just allows me to do a lot more, and I don't have to worry about documentation being inaccurate.

Who's ready to camping?

The textures are a bit funky still, gotta fix that repitition but it looks 10x better than unity, the sky also isn't dynamic while the fog is, which makes the lighting a bit off sometimes.

Looks like I’ll be able to hit my goal of a minimum of a rtx 2060, if not lower, also sneak peek at one of the locations

I made a TARDIS from Doctor Who while I was waiting for something today.

This is the only scratch game I've ever made, it's related to a song from one of my favorite bands, saw a post of someone making a scratch game on gamejolt and it reminded me of this
