DF Classic has been updated! This is the definitive version of the game; read inside to find out more about its future and the new changelog.

Howdy, folks!

Bet you didn't expect this, huh? Me neither to be honest, but here we are. DF Classic, the game I swore to never update again, has been updated! For the last time. Really. I mean it.

In all seriousness, there was a strong reaction from the people on my Discord when I asked if I should keep DF Classic or shut it down like I planned. In the end, they voted that they wanted it to stay, so I will oblige. How could I say no? I'd miss it too, and it's been around for so long that it would feel weird to get rid of it without fixing everything that was wrong with it first. A proper send-off to it.

So now, DF Classic has been updated to its "definitive version", which is available for download right now! You may notice that the game no longer has a version ID (it used to be U14P7F), and it is now just called "Don't Forget Classic". This is to solidify the fact that I consider DF Classic to be complete and I will no longer work on it. Whatever happens, happens.

Does this mean DF Classic is going to stay forever now? Not quite. I still plan on shutting it down someday, but I've decided to put that day off for a while. The leap from DF Classic to the new DF might be a bit daunting to some players, so I think having this "grace period" where both of them can exist at the same time is a pretty good idea for now. But I do stand by my statement that it will be shut down eventually, but not for a long while, which is why I made this update.

Anyway, I've talked for long enough. Here's the changelog for the new DF Classic:

  • Added UNDERNET. It's not as extensive as the UNDERNET planned for the full DF, but this one will allow you to search for the profiles of other users, view your own profile, update your latest status, and customize the border on your profile with 6 different designs. The stat screen of other players has been updated with a new design to accommodate this new UNDERNET system. Press [U] to access UNDERNET.

  • Added Discord Rich Presence. Other people can now see when you're playing DF Classic in Discord! They'll be able to see your stats and which mode you're playing.

  • Made major changes to PVP. Damage no longer scales based on LV, so people with lower LV will be at a disadvantage when playing against someone much stronger than them, which is how it should have been honestly. Only fight people close to your LV, or grind to get stronger so that you don't die as easily. HP caps at 99 when you reach LV 20, so as long as you're close to or at LV 20 you should be fine. ITEMs have also been disabled in PVP, because they made fights last for an eternity and it made the battle boil down to "who has the most items", rather than skill. Hopefully these new changes improve the PVP meta.

  • The -1 HP drain effect during battle has been removed completely.

  • Removed armor from PVP. Armor no longer has an affect during PVP matches.

  • The PVP win screen now shows you what your current RANK is and how many points are left until you reach the next rank.

  • You can now earn up to 10 ATP per turn in PVP rather than up to 6.

  • Changed the design of the main menu a bit and added a new message screen when you boot up the game.

  • Finally fixed that annoying graphical error where the stat text in the C Menu would jitter if you opened it while moving.

  • Changed the ITEM menu in-battle to toggle the page by pressing [C] instead of [P].

  • Changed the prices of some spells in PVP.

And that's the changelog!

As for v1.4 of the full DF, it is still actively in development, so stay tuned for more updates on that. Be sure to join the Discord if you haven't already for more frequent development news; the link to join it is in the description on the main page.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and stay determined!
