WHY.

So the noses in evangelion are so god damn complicated.

look here:

the four main characters and the three EVAs.

now look at shinji:

his nose starting at the top, is ver thin. going to the point in the middle,the line gets significantly thicker holding on to that thickness for a bit going down and finishing on a sharp point.

there is also a shadow spanning the entire visible nose.

look at asuka:

She has a pointed top of nose, then it turns to a sharp horizontal point, falling off to another point. just like shinjis. so why does this make me annoyed? THEY ARE LOOKING AT COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANGLES. shinjis head is at a 3/4 angle while asuka is looking dead at the camera. still something that could logically make sense considering that the light source is far to the right.

but then we come to rei.

OH MY GOD REI.

Rei, has the same nose shape to shinji and asuka, HOWEVER, there is no shading which is normal and fine because she is looking over to the right instead of the left, or straight to the camera.

but, if we compare Rei to kaworu:

THINGS GET OH SO MUCH MORE COMPLICATED. Rei and Kaworu are looking at close to the same angle, similar enough to have about the same shading. however, Kaworus nose is looking different from the rest of the cast. first of all, the shape: same line shape as shinji, but there isn't a change in line weight. its consistantly one width. but Reis isn't like that. Rei, has the difference in line weight. but, she's looking at the same angle... I DON'T GET IT. second of all, the shading. Kaworu has shading on the left side of his nose, but it's not the same as shinji's or asukas because he is facing right. HOWEVER, REI, DOES NOT HAVE THAT SHADING, SHE DOESN'T HAVE ANY SHADING ON HER NOSE. WHY!?
I DON'T KNOW. I WILL NEVER KNOW. UNLESS SOMEBODY EXPLAINS THIS TO ME, AND UNDERSTANDS IT, I WILL NEVER KNOW.
