For those who don't know, @AnubiArts recently retired from Art Weeklies after a long and successful career of service.
She is VERY MUCH STILL AROUND and I would strongly encourage you to follow her and check out her art, as I would for all of the artists on our team.
She founded Art Weeklies, and ran it entirely herself coming up with new themes every week over 50 times in a row (about a year maybe longer)
Even after the brief hiatus, with a new team, she continued to be incredibly active in the community and it's development; admittedly handling more of the workload than was really fair the past month or so. I personally was pretty overwhelmed with some other projects, but I still wish I had done a little more at the time.
Still, in the end perhaps it's for the best, as she's been kinda ready to retire from this for a little while, and a couple weeks ago she did it officially, handing it off to the rest of the team, and thanking us for all that we did to help keep it going when she had been about ready to give up.
Anubi's own words
"It was fun while it lasted, but this is the end of my time at Art Weeklies, lots of things happened between the planning phase, to the launch phase and what came up afterwards, but the spark I had for weekly themes kinda died down overtime, and I couldn't keep doing it at this point
This project was revived thanks to you all, which I highly appreciate, and I hope that art weeklies keeps on going for the years to come"
-Anubi
And I believe it will. I certainly can't see it going anywhere any time soon. I know that I and the rest of the team will do the utmost to live up to Anubi's legacy with Art Weeklies, and make it the best it can be.
Some new (tho minor) changes
I mentioned a few internal changes, one of the main ones is preparing and scheduling posts once a month instead of every week. This also means you might see patterns in the theme choices for a month as they will be decided together.
Since posts are scheduled in advance, this also means that the time when the post comes out will be consistent, with no more late posts. The time it gets featured in the community is another matter, however, as that must be done manually, so be sure to follow our account here for the best results.
I also made our very first Question Post, asking the community what their favorite underrated games were. We'll be doing more with community suggestions moving forward; as engaging more with the community is something we've always wanted to do, and I figure this is a good opportunity to start.
The person who suggested a theme will be credited in the Article from now on as well, which includes both members of the team and any of you.
Additionally, I've put together a system that will allow some themes to be randomly selected from amongst certain categories to reduce the workload. I think this will help greatly with the longevity of AW.
One potentially controversial choice I've made is that all the themes we had stockpiled (both used and unused) have been re-inserted into a new system for potential themes. This means that any themes you've seen since the start of Art Weeklies return could potentially come back.
This has both positives and negatives, but I hope it will prove to be a good choice in the long run, and it's actually been a little while since we'd dipped into that stockpile, so there shouldn't be anything TOO recent.
I think that concludes this update, and farewell to Anubi. There's only one thing left to say.
On behalf of the rest of the team, this community, and just for myself:
Thankyou.
May your north star shine bright and the wind lead you to many more great things. <3
