Five Nights at Nutty's: Rebooted - 3-Week Update

So it's been about 3 weeks since I announced I was working with some people on a reboot to FNAN, and since this project is meant to be a bit more open in terms of development than usual, I may as well give a bit of an update on what's happened since and where we plan to go from here.

Here's a fun fact to start things off, the teaser trailer is already outdated for a variety of reasons, most notably Nutty's design, which is currently being overhauled with new additions and materials since we felt the current design is a bit too similar to the plain look of the original. I suppose we could update the teaser trailer but that sounds like too much work, and it was never meant to be a 100% faithful representation of the final game anyhow, so meh.

So what else is new? Well, mainly just more planning. On the gameplay side of things, we even began a very small amount of testing! I'm wanting to make this game in GameMaker: Studio since Clickteam Fusion is a bit shite in places, and so the first test I did was taking an office scrolling test I did in Clickteam using a cubemap of the FNAF:OS office posted in Phiscord and transferring it into GameMaker: Studio. Funny thing though, in attempting to do that, I accidentally ended up creating smooth scrolling. And it looked surprisingly good. So uh, I'm probably gonna end up using a form of it in this game. Victory achieved unsuccessfully.

Oh yeah, on another note, major props to ConstaChymic for helping me get a Perspective shader for the office working in GameMaker: Studio. You're a real pro, lass!

As for the lore, it's fairly planned out! A lot of it actually happened without me, so I was a bit lost when I came back into the discussion. There are some issues I see with it, but everyone generally thinks it sounds pretty cool, and there's a lot of parts of it that I like myself, so we're going with it, why not. Still a couple of plot holes we need to fill in, though...

What else, what else, uhh....oh yeah, MrNobody won a competition! He entered a drawing contest to get some money, and he did, which he's putting forward to getting better computing devices! So well done there, lad! Now you can make acorn video games 50x faster!

Lastly I'll touch on what I said about sharing updates on the game. Previously I suggested the idea of opening a Discord server to share tons of details on progress of the game, but MrNobody (who's basically second in command on the project at this point) doesn't really seem down with that idea, so we're most likely going to just take the approach of a Twitter account that occasionally posts smaller updates. It'll probably be a lot easier to keep up with anyhow, so that'll be fine. We’ll probably set it up around when we begin coding, since that should be when the real juicy things happen. Maybe I should set up a game page too so updates like these aren’t put on an almost entirely irrelevant game.

Alright, I think I covered everything I wanted to talk about. I’ll see you next time when...something happens. Idk, we’ll see. Stay tuned!

double surprise

ever wanted to play popgoes in the engine that gave us sonic forces? well unfortunately youre gonna have to wait a bit longer for that, but hopefully in the meantime playing it in the engine that gave us undertale should suffice
