Hello everyone.
This is an update regarding the state of FNAS:R for anyone who happens to be following the project. Long story short, College has taken up a lot more time than I had anticipated and motivation has frankly not been high, so the project has been effectively paused.
Originally with the speed of how development was going, I anticipated the game would be finished by summer; it's very clear that time has long passed. After I had finished most of the AI and Mechanics of the game, things slowed down to a crawl as I've had to tackle balance and bugs a LOT. I felt like a lot of things in the game are not explained to the player correctly due to so many small mechanics that it's very easy to feel overwhelmed. At the same time I'm not really sure what the best route would be in explaining all the mechanics without making it feel tedious and boring. (Phone calls are not something I'm really interested in doing.)
Eventually, I reached a point where I experienced massive burnout and decided to just focus on college and other priorities. Ever since, it's not been easy trying to pick back up the game to continue progress. Nobody probably knows this, but this project of mine has been a thing since all the way back in 2016, when I was doing this on Scratch in middle school for fun. This game has been through so many iterations and mechanics and story and whatnot. I wouldn't say it's been miserable, I've always had fun doing this to learn game design, but with my interests having shifted away from scratch/turbowarp to unity/unreal, It's been hard trying to keep motivation up for so long in these later iterations.
So, what does this all mean? Am I quitting? Is the game cancelled?
No.
I do still want to finish the game at some point in its current iteration. The project means a lot to me and my friends, and to have such a long project go nowhere would be nothing short but a shame. But at the same time, I can't promise when that'll be. Again, there are some pains in the project I need to solve before work can continue. College is still a priority of mine, so who knows when you might hear from me again. A month? Few months? Half a year? Who knows. But just know that the game is still kicking and isn't going anywhere. I will return to it, eventually.
Thank you to those who've shown the slightest interest in this little fnaf fan game.
Happy holidays, and have a happy new year.
