Not sure if this is a great place to drop a little review like this, but I'm giving it a try.
Last night I went to see the Five Nights at Freddy's movie in a theater a second time. First was on opening night watching it with my friend, having a good fun time. This time I watched it with a more critical mindset, thinking about what I liked and didn't like about it.
Spoiler review:
My biggest gripe has to be the lack of the "surviving the night" feel that the games have. I'm not saying the entire movie should've been Mike staring at the cameras and switching the breaker on/off, but a few scenes of him interacting with the security system and using office devices to defend himself could've been really neat. I really liked the intro with the original security guard and when the brother thief character used the cameras. More of that, but with Mike, would've really solidified it as a FNaF experience to me.
As for the Afton story I'm not sure. It could've been interesting to see the springlocking scene built up to in maybe the second or third movie as we get to learn more about Afton, but it does kind of work in this one. I just think it needed some more time to be built up throughout the movie either way.
Still, as I guess what you'd call an "OG fan", this was still surreal and amazing to watch on the big screen. The animatronics and set design were very well done—I'm not sure it could get much better than what they did. The references and cameos were all fun (even though I missed the MatPat scene on first watch after going out to the restroom). Just a good old fun time for FNaF fans.
Overall I do like the movie, but I feel like it could've had a lot more FNaF action.
