🚧Test Level Progress
Showcase of current Test Level - Subject to change, of course. The lighting isn’t even built.
We are getting somewhere with the Test Level! This level will be used for showcasing the basics of the new Chapter 2 features and how they can be used to make interesting puzzles and challenges.
For playtesting and checking that the features we’ve worked on actually practically work, making a basic test level works really well! We did the same thing for Chapter 1, so it feels like a good idea to do it for Chapter 2 and any future potential chapters.
While other stuff has kept us busy, we do have two stages done and ideas for the last two stages. And we should have the level done at max before the end of next week.
📑We’re finalizing the script!
Again, imma tease if I wanna.
THIS is what took up most of our time.
We felt like the game needed a clear backstory and timeline, so I wrote up a fairly open-ended timeline of Panthera and the world of the game.
While Chapter 2 is fully written, we want to make sure that the story makes sense according to the timeline, so I and the bois will probably get into a call today to check on and potentially rework the story a little bit!
Writing Legal disclaimers is fun :)
Another thing that took time was writing some legal disclaimers for the game and its story. It’s not the funniest thing in the world but is good to have just in case.
For example, Panthera Labs is entirely fictional and made up by us, but we recognize that there are corporations who have an exact or similar name, and we do not base our version of Panthera Labs on them at all. It’s just an unintentional similarity.
We also make mention of actual countries and governments in the timeline and potentially in-game, so our disclaimer includes a mention that no government agency has endorsed or approved our use of them in the story.
🏗️The Process of Making Levels
An example of how the checklist for a level might look
Making levels is not an easy task. It requires us to first write a script that incorporates the level into the story. Then it’s about designing and building the stages.
Then you have to incorporate the story and the ending into the level, building the lighting, occlusion culling, resonance, custom music, playtesting multiple times…
In short, it takes work, and while we’ve mostly gotten past the first speed bump for Chapter 2 which is writing the story, the next one is building the levels. So expect this to take some time. Still, we’ll keep you updated along the way! 😊
If you like the game or have any useful feedback, please feel free to give the game a positive review or rating, or just share the game around! It’s a small gesture, but it makes a huge difference and makes us very happy, no matter if it’s positive or constructive criticism.😁
We also welcome anyone to upload or stream their gameplay of Just Keep Running, and feel free to share that gameplay with us if you so wish! FYI, Twitch streamers, we have our own game category on there… 😉
We’re still working hard on Chapter 2! But if you can’t wait until then, you can still check out Version 1.4.3 of the game here on GameJolt!
