First time playing Terraria an I am 8 hours in, have no idea what I am doing and I am loving it anyway

I was just playing in my modded minecraft world and I just discovered a mushroom island out of nowhere randomly, and it was close to spawn this whole time?????????

I have like a shit ton of hours in this world how did I JUST discover this?????
