Game
Blue

Hello! This is a report of everything that happened with Blue this year.  It will also give a small summary of how the game started as well as what I wish to do in the upcoming year 2021.

Blue as an idea started 2 years ago with a small concept of a storyline and mechanics.  I first began working on it on RPG Maker VX Ace but didn't get far as I was very inexperienced in game making and could not convey the story or game I wanted to present.  I worked on smaller games, practising and improving my pixel art and digital art skills and learning how to get emotions and stories across in video games.  Soon I could afford RPG Maker MV and began practising on it different plugins and ideas with hopes to one day be able to create the story of Blue (and another game that I have planned) that would be impactful and meaningful.  I transferred the game and all the assets I made over to RPG Maker MV and started to rework the art and first couple of stages this year.  I implemented some mechanics I wanted and decided to publish a demo to see if my idea was good.

This year I have done the following:

  • Transferred the entirety of Blue files to RPG Maker MV

  • Created 17 images (15 of which are in the demo)

  • Redesigned the title screen

  • Created an itch.io and GameJolt devlog to document the progress of Blue

  • Finished the introductory part of the game

  • Published a small demo of Blue

  • Finished the layout of the next 2 parts of Blue

  • Created an updated icon set for Blue to include the items found in the next 2 parts of Blue

  • Created the sprite sheets for doors, levers and buttons for future use in the game

  • Implemented 3 major scenes  in the game and 4 minor ones

  • Released some wallpapers

Next year I hope to:

  • Finished the next 2 sections of the game

  • Finish create all of the game assets and sound effects

  • Be able to commission custom made music for some scenes in Blue

  • Finish the rest of the mapping and layout of the game

  • Add the secret rooms and items

  • Update the demo to be more interesting and interactive

  • Finish most if not all of the endings

  • Add more mechanics to the game

    • A light source where different items provide different levels of light in dark areas

    • A gallery system that saves between files and game overs so that pictures of deaths can be recorded

    • A small achievements system

  • Release a beta of the finished game

  • Make a trailer of the game

Thank you all for your support this year, it has helped tremendously with the progression of the game's development. I wish all of you all a great New Year's.

Hello, this year has been a very busy one, with school, exam and now university. Don't worry, I have not forgotten about Blue. I'll be trying to push updates on my progress when I can. In the mean time, have a quick art I made.

Hello! I've turned some of the art in Blue into wallpapers for you guys. I also made some wallpapers of events to come in the game. They are available to download now and I plan to add more, including phone wallpapers, when I have the time to make them.

Working on the layout and cutscenes in the next 2 sections of the game. I've almost finished it in the first section of the game. The next thing I will be working on is the items and icons for the items and cutscenes.

Happy #WIPWednesday!

Are you working on a game? A song? Something else? Tell us in the comments!

Hello, I'm currently working on the areas in Blue. Finished the layout of the final area, just need to do the 4th area now. Almost 4 out of the 5 areas are done in terms of layout and I just need to find the time to finish make the tilesets for them.
