Here Goes Nothing

I really value watching the progress of other dreamers and how they navigate their unknowable difficulties. So here’s my little addition to that world. Signal Islands could one day be a cool little indie game. That’s the plan. And I figured I should mark my meager progress for anyone interested in listening.

Who am I? I am the kind of person who starts a LOT of things and finishes a few of them. I’m a hobby novelist (who just completed his first novel that no one will ever read, no matter how many people I try to get to read it) and musician with a history of graphic design and a little film making. I am just as interested in the process of creation as I am in the created thing. So that’s the plan. To begin with a specific vision, my little indie casual arcade-twin stick-shmup game with mid-century modern aesthetics and an original soundtrack and story that’ll progress as rewards for beating each small level, and then to try my hardest not to get overwhelmed by what this could become. It’s a gently sci-fi story that hints at a much bigger world and many more adventures to come and I can’t wait to share it with you.

I’ll be posting visual progress mostly, with some audio stuff and possibly video from time to time. Who knows if it’ll ever get finished? I want to tell you I’m sure it will. But I’ve learned it’s better to be honest, even as we’re dreaming.

I’ll be re-familiarizing myself with Blender and Unity, my primary tools. I’ll use MagicaVoxel (used for the picture above) and Photoshop and Ableton Live as well. The plan is to work on simple versions of the first few levels, in roughly the style and feel I’m planning on, and release those for free on the Xbox Live Creators Program platform and Windows and, if there is a positive response (assuming there is any response at all) I will attempt to crowdfund support to flesh out and complete the game.

Again, no promises. But how cool would it be to look back at this in a couple years if it all comes true? So here goes.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)

One of the most critical update for Sunblaze demo. Now you are able to pet a cat! Finally!

Update 2.627

New challenges & new effects!

Hi everyone! I started to create some environment props for my new video game, here is a cozy house in the forest. I'm planning to switch from Unity to Unreal... Let's see what new challenges I have to face. Made in Blender and Substance Painter.

Spaaaace~

These are background sprites I've created for a game I'm working on at school ^w^ Click on the post to see how the sprites connect. You won't regret it! (personally, I think it's pretty heheh)

My D&D art for my family so far (WIP if you couldn't tell)

I did this on my 3DS ^^ #Kirby

Some time ago, we posted a screenshot of the Mexico level. A curiosity about it is that, like some other scenarios of the game, it was inspired by a real landscape, The Basaltic Prisms of Santa María Regla. It is one of the natural wonders of the country!

blender animation experimentation, getting the hang of things fast. arms, rig, & gun models by me ofc
