I got a idea for a fangame called PAPER TOAD. Pretty much it is me turning the battle system of color splash into a fun experience. Article has details


So, you play a Toad (PICTURE 1). With 20 HP and a few hammer cards. Your Goal is to survive many cards with your limited Cards and Mana

You have three free base moves you can use to take down your foes. Jump, with causes you to make two weak jumps that each deal 1 damage. Defend, which makes your defense higher for one turn to take hard hits lighter or make make small hits non existence. Scan, to tell information about the foe and make its defense lower

But these three moves will not get you very far. This is why you have cards, each card is an move you can use. From a Hammer (PICTURE 2) to a Fire Flower. You only got limited cards, so managment is key to success

But that alone would be VERY boring. So you get the bonus mechanic of needing to color cards (PICTURE 3) for them to be as good as they can. You start with 100 of each of the three mana colors. RED, YELLOW and BLUE. You can color cards without it taking up your turn. But lets say you want to color a card but your mana has run out? Well, there are two options to deal with that

first, you got BLACK mana you got 100 of as well, it can be substitute for any MANA but it cannot be restored, so you should use it in a emergency. second, you can get color from colored cards, like you would need 5 BLUE and 5 YELLOW to color a normal hammer. You can also get 5 BLUE and 5 YELLOW out of a colored hammer card, by destroying it

So, colored cards are even more valueable. They can be beside a way to SAFE MANA a way to GET MANA. Well, there is another twist that may make the combat more interesting, MAGIC (PICTURE 4, example from EBF 5, not all icons are planed to be used)

You can use MANA to cast spells. Like lets say a Fireball, the drawback is that they are more expansive than a card. A Card that does the same effect would be costing less mana than a spell that does the same, but Spells do not get used once played

The routine of playing will be: You start with 20 HP and 10 not colored Hammer Cards. You beat a foe to get a few Cards and Money from him and restore 5 HP. You do that until either you die or make it to a shop. Were you can use your hard earned cash to buy Cards or Spells.

But you will level up. There are a few bosses that each drop a LEVEL UP. You can use it for three things; Increase your max HP by 5, Increase your max MANA of each color by 25 or just selling it for a lot of MONEY

The game should be a battle after battle thing with several difficulties. There are no buttons imputs for attacking or dodgning, it should be about managment. Managment of your HP, CARDS and MANA and planning ahead via choosing LEVEL UPS and buying at stores
