Since a while ago, Gamejolt added the option to place emojis from the Twemoji set (These ones: , used in places such as Twitter, Discord, and Roblox, to name a few), the problem lies that with the recent change in ownership from Twitter, most of the people working on the official Twemoji branch (the one that Gamejolt uses) were fired, and with how the new head of Twitter is taking actions regarding Twitter and it's content, it's very likely that the official designs will be either closed source, or unaccesible from Github (you can take for example some redesigns for the holding tears emoji spotted on Twitter's emoji picker, which aren't available in the official Twemoji branch at Github), leaving the next set of emojis in Unicode 15 to be lacking designs.
Thankfully, due to the open source nature of the existing set, some old, Ex-Twitter employees made a fork with updated designs, and with plans to support Unicode 15 in the works. Discord has already started to use this set, and Gamejolt could benefit from the newest designs in Unicode 15 and beyond, too.
It's less about changing designs and more about future-proofing support for the newest emojis, which will most likely not be available in the official Twemoji's branch (which Gamejolt is making use of)
