Kaiju Fishing Demo Update 0.0.3.6

Hey Everybody,

First off, to all the new fans: Welcome Aboard! We're glad you've joined us. Stick around as we'll be rolling out content updates as often as our "tiny team" can manage.

Now on to the good stuff!

Demo Version 0.0.3.6 is now released. Here's yer patch notes:

General Gameplay
The telescope zoom feature has been disabled for now. We need to spend time stabilizing it for it to be less nauseating, so we're taking it out. It will return in the full release.

Controls
Mouse and Keyboard are now in the Demo!
For anyone on a previous Beta Branch, Mouse and Keyboard controls rebound in some places to adjust for Medium Fishing controls. Most should be the same, but pay attention to the tutorials to make sure!

Movement
Open Sail Movement
Speed increased from 15 to 35
Turn speed increased from .8 to 1.3
Time to Full Speed increased from 1.3 to 2 seconds
Open Sail Camera Adjusted (Orbit ranges increased to be further back and higher up)
Open Sail Camera FOV decreased from 90 to 50

Closed Sail Movement (Cruising)
Speed increased from 5 to 15
Turn power increased from .5 to 1
Time to full speed decreased from 2.5 to 1.2

Environment and Fish
Medium Fish are finally here! There are two types, each in their own zone. Find them to go for a ride!
Biff, our shopkeeper, has a swanky new ride. For now, he's parked it by his little island but he'll be hittin' the seas in the full release!
Fish Zones around the map now only contain one type of fish. To catch others, you'll have to explore. This will also tie into Crafting and Baits in the full game, but we wanted to separate them anyways just for ease of deciding what to fish for!

Attacks and Strikes
Movement attacks have had their tension significantly reduced and their UI elements hidden.
Strikes! (Think baseball) Fishing now has a 3-Strikes rule and you gain strikes when you miss an attack prompt. After 3 misses, the fish escapes.
Fish attacks have had their tension increases lowered across the board to compensate.

Tutorial Update
We've done away with our old panels and have moved to more reactive panels. These are meant to give you the information you need immediately before you engage in a new mechanic.
These tutorials should also be giving icons for the correct input devices now, if you're on Mouse and Keyboard or Controller.
If you want to see them again, a toggle is available in the Settings Menu in the Gameplay section.

UI Updates
Menus, Alerts, Dialogue Boxes, and Pop-Ups have all been updated to a new style of art.

Quests
We've expanded the quest from our shopkeeper to include the Medium Fish and changed some of the dialogue. We aren't planning any major quest updates in the Demo build (besides just catching a Clampjaw and an Octopod too now), but we'll keep you posted.

Bug Fixes
So many.
From fixing alerts to fish behaviors, a LOT has changed under the hood so things should be running more smoothly overall:

  1. Boat will "unflip" itself if you manage to flip yer boat

  2. Cursor disappears after clicking 'Back' on the settings menu.

  3. Pause Menu freezes game when "There doesn't seem to be anything here..." text appears

  4. Yellow checkmarks in settings disappear when clicking anywhere. it is also weird having both highlight and checkmarks for framerate/quality settings

  5. Sound is muted by default, shouldn't have to navigate to settings to turn on sound

  6. Full Screen toggle has no UI difference, can't tell if it is on or off

  7. "Skip Tutorials" checkbox is fuzzy

  8. Pause menu visible behind settings menu, can see both pause text and settings text

  9. Resolution dropdown empty

  10. Mouse does not appear after returning from settings until you click

  11. "Resume" button stays highlighted in pause menu

  12. Pause menu options don't have a visual change when hovering over

  13. "Press Any button to Start" is a lie, have to click on the button to start

  14. Stuck in rocks

  15. Boat can travel across the map while talking to biff

  16. Biff's clam card/boat has no collision.

  17. Fixed that you could cast into the rocks and other objects.

  18. And a whole bunch of others that didn't get documented as we were working...

/////////////////////////////
// Known Bugs - I'll be adding to this as we go
// If you find one, please report it (Bug report is linked from the Main Menu)
////////////////////////////

  • Medium fish squash/stretch when pivoting while wandering
