Welcome to the LCN Devlog, January 28th 2024 Edition! Today, we will look back on 2023 and all the LCN stuff that came out during that year, and also take a look at the future of LCN at the very end, so stay tuned for that!
2023 RETROSPECTIVE
LCN Version 0.1
December 25th, 2022
Now I know I just said this was a 2023 retrospective, but come on, this came out less than a week before that year, also, it's the very first version of the game!
This version added the first 20 characters, along with all of the office mechanics like Sunflowers, temperature doors and more. But this version was pretty buggy and janky, not to mention very poorly balanced; it was made in 2 days!
Fun fact about this version: The temperature was always going up because the left vent was always broken, unlike in future versions where the vent getting broken is a special event that you need to watch our for! You were able to buy a wooden plank that stopped the temperature from increasing for 30 seconds. Crazy.
LCN Version 0.2
January 28th, 2023
Released one year ago today, Version 0.2 overhauled almost every single mechanic, making the game much more balanced and fun! This was all thanks to @Zach_Scream , who betatested the game and came up with most of the reworks.
Fun fact about this version: Originally, the difficulty system was going to be completely removed, because it made the game unecessarily complicated and the idea of Hard Mode made the other two difficulty settings irrelevant. Difficulty was reworked into the Aggressive changes, which can be set individually for each character instead of being a global difficulty mode!
LCN Version 0.3
February 15th, 2023
Version 0.3 didn't add anything, but it did make a few balance changes and reworks.
Fun fact about this version: This very small update was marked as a major one because at the time I wanted there to be a major update every month.
LCN Version 0.3.1: The Real 0.3
March 30th, 2023
Unlike 0.3 which was pretty small, this update added a ton of new stuff, like a pre-night screen, visual and audio cues for the vent malfunction, and the Sun Generator overheat mechanic. All of these features are crucial to the game as we know it today, so this version was extremely important.
@Bsheepdestroyermakesstuff helped betatest this version, and came up with the Sun Generator overheat mechanic! His betatesting for this version was the reason he was added as a roster character in the next updates. Pp
Fun fact about this version: It also added some features I wanted to add since the release version but couldn't until this update: namely the Bug Spray working on the actual Sunflowers instead of their pots, and Spider-Man being vulnerable to the Vent Trap.
LCN Version 1.0: Full Release
April 1st, 2023
As you can probably guess, this was a joke version released on April Fools 2023 and advertised as the full release with all 40 characters. Upon starting a night on this version, you were met with every single jumpscare played at once every frame and an instant game over.
Fun fact about this version: Originally I wanted the roster to actually look complete in the main menu (so filling all the locked slots) to make it look like it was the actual full release, but unfortunately I only came up with the idea of making a joke update the very day it came out, so I didn't have enough time to replace the roster.
LCN Version 0.4
April 6th, 2023
This version added three new characters (first update to add characters since the first release): SuperS0ul, Frogger and the Ink Demon. It also made some extremely important changes, such as the first Vent Reset costing 5 Sun and Bulon having increased speed.
@DoubleDeadSkull_ (as well as everyone else who betatested the previous versions) betatested this update.
Fun fact about this version: It took 6 days to make, but unlike Version 0.1, it ended up being awesome, so while it was rushed, it turned out great.
LCN Version 0.5
May 31st, 2023
This version added three new characters: Balty, Sheep and Asgore, as well as Discord Rich Presence!
While DRP was pretty neat, the new characters were poorly balanced and made the game worse. Because of this, 0.5 is usually regarded as a pretty bad update.
Fact about this version: Again, just like with 0.3 the reason the update came out in such a bad state was because I wanted monthly updates. After this version, I learned to let go from the urge to release monthly updates and instead focus on quality, leading to...
LCN Version 0.6
December 2nd, 2023
This version came out months after the last update, but the wait was worth it. This was the biggest LCN update ever, adding four characters, reworking and rebalancing a ton of mechanics and almost every character (and making the characters from 0.5 good) and also adding several features to the menu, like Set All buttons, drag selecting and Character Types.
This is the current version of the game!
Fun fact about this version: I took a long break from LCN between Version 0.5 and 0.6, and only started working on this version in September.
Well, that's it. That was every LCN update so far, but now, let's check out the new version I'm currently working on:
LCN Version 0.7
The version I'm currently working on! This update is going to add three new characters, as well as lots of balancing, reworks and bug fixes!
Here's the first character getting added in Version 0.7:
Sheldon Cooper - When Sheldon appears, you'll have to imitate his knocking ritual by knocking on the vent openings at The Office. If you don't, he will scream at you!
Alright, that's all for this week's Devlog. Bye!
