It doesn't matter who you are. You're gonna het excited about things sometimes, only to realize the facts later.
Myself included.
This all started when a friend of mine recommended guilded to me, and they were going on about how much better it is, how crappy Discord is for its monetization, etc.
Well, yeah. I do think discord's monetization is weird at times, and there's a lot about it that I don't like. But I can still use it just fine despite that. But I let myself jump on the bandwagon and suddenly my small nitpicks turned into "yeah screw this let's move to a new platform and ditch the old one!"
Lets face it: I got carried away. And then, I didn't want to admit that I messed up so I kept the server, well I'm just going to delete it (the Guilded server) for now and restore the old iconography of the Discord one. I still use Guilded to talk to certain people in DM's who prefer it, but that's something I can do in private without pushing it on everyone.
If discord ever DOES go down, well, GameJolt exists for that purpose and I have used it before to keep in contact with people! So, yeah.
I do wish that Guilded was what I hoped it was -- a similar situation to when I moved from Skype to discord. Back then, Skype was faltering, and Discord was really awesome in comparison. I wanted so badly for Guilded to be the same thing, but that's not what it is, at least for me. It's merely an alternative with some of it's own problems too. So I think it's time I admit that and get things back to normal.
Maybe one day a truly great Discord alternative will come along, but next time, I'll make sure it's actually good before recklessly launching myself at it and hoping it sticks.
