Haven’t posted in a while, but I can assure you that I’m actively working on the game!
And so it happens that one of my main priorities is to make the game feel alive. And to achieve this goal I started with the character controller. The one that is currently in use is probably the most advanced one I’ve ever programmed. I focussed a lot on making every movement feel super smooth and not like extremely choppy - as seen in The Silent House - and very recently I added a lot of sound effects to it, which include step sounds (of course…) a nice and crinkley cloth sound, which can be heard while walking or standing still and looking around, and a dynamic heartbeat sound which changes speed and volume while running.
Speaking of running… to make it as close as possible to actual running/sprinting I’m effecting the sprint speed with a curve which makes the player start running slowly and gradually increasing speed until he ends up with the fastest sprinting speed, after which he relaxes and stays at a moderate jogging speed unitl he runs out of stamina.
Alright…. that was quite a lot!
Besides all that I’m also making fairly decent progress on the level design. Almost half of the hotel building is completed, though all the linear story maps and the courtyard are still to be done after that’s finished.
Recent optimizations also gave me a performance boost up to about 100% in some areas! I will probably make those changes to TSH as well (The framerate drops in Hoglers Workshop are going nuts!)
Anyways, that’s everything I have to say for now!
