Monthly Updates #3

Welcome back to monthly updates! This one is a pretty important one, so I highly encourage you all to read it! Got some stuff to show off, and future stuff to let people know about.

PROGRESS

Hohohooooo boy, so we got some stuff to go over here. Not great stuff necessarily, but a lot of stuff. First of all, I had to scrap everything and start from scratch. The way development was going with the new version of godot while working on a imported build of a game made on a much earlier version of godot was causing issues. It was starting to get really buggy, it slowed down a bunch, and my code was kind of a mess. While I didn't want to, I did have to start from scratch again, as it was the best thing to do for the game.

(I did record the scrapped build for preservation sake, which you can see here!)

Admittedly, it will be a great opportunity to visually overhaul everything, but it may cause a bit of a delay in a lot of stuff I promised. It will also cause some changes to the game page as well, almost everything labeled as "Outdated" will be removed, and this will mean a a lot of the images showcasing some teasers and in-game stuff. This will take effect after this post goes live.

For the newest build I have gotten as far as to finish a prototype of how I want the main menu to look, and I've started getting to work on a settings menu. I made a full screen toggle button, ways to toggle V-Sync on and off, and I'm working on ways to change the resolution. You won't be able to change the aspect ratio due to how everything is drawn, but I don't think there would be many people complaining about not being able to play in 4:3. I also have started sketching out the new office and will show you any bits of that when they are done. Will take a while though as I got to make transition areas to apply motion blur to, and that's gonna be a new experience for me as well as be somewhat tricky. (Below is a snapshot of what the new main menu looks like!...Still a work in progress...heh)

Trailer isn't coming out anytime this year sadly, as I've moved my focus on animating in office stuff to make movement in the game feel much more natural. Mechanics are still my main focus, but I must at least practice animating, and lay the foundation for my ideas for the office and the games visuals.

FUTURE STUFF TO EXPECT

  • Game Page Updates - This was to be expected how the previous section mentioned. A lot of stuff is getting removed. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean new stuff won't replace it. In fact there probably will be a bunch of newer stuff that better represents the games vision. This will vary from teasers, to looks at the brand new office!

  • Revealing portions of what the new office looks like - The office is currently being redrawn and will be much more detailed than what was shown in the scrap build, and it will contain various props, items, and a few easter eggs! It will only be some chunks though as drawing and making a panoramic drawing will take a long time. (Below is a sketch of the Bunkle's new design!)

    screenshot_2023-11-03_150910.png
  • Purgatory Chica and Purgatory Foxy reveal - I won't reveal every animatronic that will appear in the game, but for 2023 I will reveal Purgatory Chica and Purgatory Foxy. Chica's reveal will be sometime later this month, and Foxy's will be in mid-December. I will reveal more animatronics in 2024 but I don't want to go over that in this post.

  • Scrap Day - It's finally happening on the 15th of this month, stay tuned for it as it's going to be huge and contain a lot of scrapped content!

  • Potential Demo? - There will be no demo, and that's because most fnaf fan game demos are really underwhelming, and if I did make a demo for this game, it would be really underwhelming.

CLEANING UP SOME BLOOD PUDDLES

So I rated this game as mature here on gamejolt for the amount of violence and gore contained within the game. My original vision was going to be much more violent and bloody than where the games current direction is going. Recently though, I toned this down, and while the game is still mature, the blood and violence ratings are a lot less intense.

This is because I came across this Youtube series called UrbanSpook, and I really, really did not like it. It did a poor job of telling a story by focusing way too much on gorey details and shock value. I then noticed a lot of people were complaining about the many graphic fnaf fan games, and I began to think about how I am utilizing blood and gore in this game. Blood and Gore is essential to tell the story I want to tell, but I soon realized, while I didn't rely on it, some parts of the game are unnecessarily brutal, and do not need to be that way.

So I toned a lot of it down, and made it all very minimal. This will change a lot about what is being shown off. If you were looking for an edgy FNAF gore fest, you're not getting it here, and I hope you can understand that it's for the best of the game.

WHAT'S UP CASEY?

Nothing much, things have been going really well, and I've had more motivation to draw assets and continue production more than ever! With the way development has been going, production should be finished in Spring of 2024! Don't hold you're breath though, it might be Summer of 2024 realistically speaking, but production should be finished pretty soon!

Thanks for reading this post! It was a long one, but an important one. I'm looking forward to advancing this project and getting it into your guys' hands! See you in the next post!

I feel bad for not posting game related stuff for a while, so here is a sneak peek at part of the new office. I'm still working on the teasers, but atm, I want to focus on the project in general, so the teasers will come out whenever I feel like it lol
