My thoughts on Sonic X Shadow Generations

(A bit of Spoilers Obviously)

I know I don't usually post stuff that are just reviews, but I feel like a bit of change here since all I've done here was just post Game Dev stuff I'm working on. But wanted to share my thoughts on Sonic X Shadow Generations on Nintendo Switch.

Shadow Generations:

Shadow Generations was the first thing I played when I got this, and I did really enjoyed it's storytelling and how Shadow's character is handled. He's no longer Edgy the Hedgy that he was in the 2010's and even the 2005 Shadow the Hedgehog game. So the plot of it that Shadow revisits the Space Colony Ark after he believes that the Black Arms have returned, while he's also missing a bit of Sonic's Birthday. It's then revealed that Black Doom is still alive and now wants to take over the world again. And after completing Act 1 of the Ark, Shadow is sent to white space and Act 2 of the Ark is unlocked where he gains a new power. I'm not going to be going over much of it's plot for those that don't want to be spoiled. The gameplay I think is much more of an improvement than Forces and even Frontiers, I do like some of the Open Zone challenges you can do in White Space which can unlock you certain collectables you can look at in the Collection Room. The Levels themselves are much more longer than the levels in Forces and Frontiers, which I do like, probably the one level I think has to be my favourite is Sunset Heights, way better than it's original counterpart, the Death Egg Robots in the background does something to get in your way which I like. There's one robot that pretty much throws some rubble at you, but if you perfectly time your Chaos Control you can homing attack the rubble to get to a higher place that you can use as a shortcut which I do like. The bosses themselves are quite unique, my favourite is Metal Overlord which I do like how your using the Doom Surf to your advantage to defeat him, I thought Mephiles was also kinda cool how your suppose to use Doom Morph to defeat him. The soundtrack itself is also great, I do like the remix of Chaos Island which I know not many people like that track, but I like how they have the 1st and 2nd Movement of that Island play while having a bit of a Cyberspace theme to it.

Sonic Generations Remaster:

The Sonic Generations Remaster was also great, had the controls as Legacy just so I can feel like I'm playing the original game. I do like the inclusion of the drop dash but only for Classic, Modern's drop dash is pretty much useless to me. One thing I am aware of is Ian Flynn rewritten the dialogue, which I don't really mind there were some dialogue I didn't really liked in the original game, though I don't have any hate on the original writers, Ken Pontac and Warren Graff, though I felt like they shoud've kept the remaster the same story kinda like Colours Ultimate, but again I do think the rewrite is alright, nothing that special to me since Generations story wasn't that special, though I did kinda like it's plot when I first played the original. I am also aware on something I've seen being criticized was some parts of Rouge's body being censored and this also can be seen in Shadow Gens, though that stuff is just minor to me which I don't really care about. I do have some problems with the rewrite though, and that is the lip syncing, it doesn't even match the new dialogue it's just the same lip sync as the original. There was one cutscene that I just couldn't believe was in it and it's the cutscene that played before fighting the Death Egg Robot, where there's a bit of a dialogue with Eggman that he says, but the thing is the subtitle of that dialogue appears before he starts speaking and the other thing I don't like is the line from Knuckles to Classic Sonic, he says in the original to him if he's "Gain Weight" which Classic looks down and rubs his stomach. However in the remaster he asks where the rest of his island is, which Classic does the same thing he did in the original, wish they reanimated that part like he shrugs that he doesn't know or something. Overall this remaster is still the same as it's original counterpart only with some new voice actors and rewritten dialogue, all the collectables I have the now is still the same as the original.

Would I recommend this?

Absolutely, this is coming from someone that has spent 500 Hours on Sonic Frontiers for the Nintendo Switch, it looks really decent on switch and this has to be the best thing we've got for the Fearless Year of Shadow, go check the game out yourselves if you haven't played the original game.
