I liked this chapter much more than chapter 3 and I'll tell you why now. But this time there will be more spoilers for the plot, however, you saw the beginning and if it did not stop you - it's your choice.
But before we begin, I'll briefly tell you how Toby Fox surprised me in this game and probably many others. You remember how fans came up with these strange dark worlds based on objects from different buildings in Hometown, right? And sometimes I looked at them and thought: "Well, if in the next chapters we only explore these dark worlds and seal fountains, then sooner or later it will become boring, no?" And then chapter 4 comes out, in which Toby makes SEVERAL DIFFERENT dark worlds in what would seem to be ONE place. Well, now let's talk about the plot, and how exactly we had to visit these 2 dark worlds.
The Story (pretty long this time)
It all starts with Kris and Susie, along with Toriel, having to go to church. By the way, I must say that I don't often see such moments in any works now, no matter if they are American, European or any other. I myself am not a believer, at least not in any earthly religions, I am a typical agnostic, but this moment seemed quite interesting and in its own way cute to me. But after church, they decide to go to Noelle to find out the password to the Shelter from her, since at the end of Chapter 3, that's where the Mysterious Dark Knight took Undyne, who had arrived in time.

But in Noelle's house, Kris tears his soul (the player's) out of his body, since some entity contacted him and said that "No one should know the code", including the player. So, making small troubles, we still get to Kris and suddenly Asgore and Noelle's mother burst in, who is very angry at Susie, for which she took the guitar, inside of which was the code and therefore kicks us out of the house. Susie saw this code, but forgot it, so it will not be possible to get into the Shelter. Then they decide to return to the church to Toriel for the keys to the house. At this moment, by the way, you can go to the dark world to Ralsei, who will drink tea with you, also a pretty cute moment, as well as many other moments with him, and when Susie tells him about what happened last night, he will say that he does not feel any danger, which means that in that Shelter there is no dark world (at least for now). And you can also find out that his room is empty and Susie and I need to somehow decorate it after a while. Finally, returning to the church, we see that a dark world has suddenly appeared there. And entering it, we meet Ralsei in the classic way and cross paths with the Knight several times. We also meet Gerson (with whom one creepy thing is connected, we will return to it later.) Well, I also really liked the boss battle with Jackinstein, and as a character he is funny. By the way, we get a new ability from him - to climb ladders and everything that looks like them.
There is also a moment where Gerson needed to get a book, he himself could not do it, and Ralsei, standing in a chair pose, offered him to stand on him, but Susie did it, it was already expected that she would flatten him, after which they left, and Ralsei and I remained in the room. And the fact that I can keep him company in this position made me LMAO. For some reason I have a theory that if you lie there for a while, then like in Undertale in Napstablook's house you can see this space background with atmospheric ambient, but I haven't checked. Although given the many references to Undertale in Chapter 3, this would also be funny.
But in short, we almost catch up with the Knight, but he runs away, after which we return to the light world, go to the next room, in which there is dust on the chair and the floor. And at that moment we understand that this is... what is left of the Real Gerson and that the dark worlds can, in every sense of the word, revive the inanimate. At that moment, my head was blown. It's creepy, really, especially considering that in the dark world we perceived him as just a funny old man who helped us and he had a very strange laugh. It seemed to me that he was really stupidly looking for a switch to light the whole room and in the Light World he will finally find it and this will turn out to be a small comic moment. How wrong I was, damn me.

Anyway, when we go to the next world, we open this door and meet the knight face to face, after which he opens another fountain and summons Titan. At this point, the degree of epicness increases to the maximum and we first have to run away from him, and then fight. And this Boss is also rockin' epic. I passed it on the 3rd try and the ending after it is also very touching. We told Ralsei that everything is ok, went to seal the fountain and returned back to that church and are stunned. It looks like the apocalypse came to visit it (partly it is, but from the outside it looks the same as before, as does the rest of the city).
It is empty and dark inside, on the street too. Susie thought that everyone who was there was screwed, including possibly Toriel. And at that moment I really started to believe that it happened and expected if not the most hysterical ending, then at least something melancholic, after which I would want to shed a couple of powerful male tears. And I saw the following picture: Sans and Tori are flexing to the leitmotif of Ghost Fight, which really sank into the soul of Toby Fox. And you know, in such an oppressive atmosphere, to insert something so comical that it would be harmonious and not ruin the moment - you have to be able to do this, and Fox managed to do it. Well, Kris goes to bed, and Tori and Sans continue to laugh loudly, which is very disturbing (like my drunk neighbors from above). And then he wakes up and, going out the window, heads for the Shelter. The end.
WOW... To say I'm amazed is to say nothing. This time we were shown a lot of lore details, lively interaction between characters, truly pressing moments, and they decided to amuse us a couple of times too.
Everything else (shortly)
Speaking of the atmosphere, I'm glad that after Chapter 3 we're shown something really dark again. And I like this stained glass and majestic setting. It's like the Queen's mansion in Chapter 2, only more mysterious and dark. The graphics and music in Toby's games are always top notch, and listening to some tracks I caught Final Fantasy 6 vibes, starting with the intro and ending with the final Boss. It's nice to hear something similar this time, but it's just "something similar", and not a direct reference, of which there were a lot in Chapter 3. And like last time, I'll mention my favorite tracks:
Dark Sanctuary, From Now On, Gyaa ha ha!, A DARK ZONE, Ever Higher, The Second Sanctuary, Dark Place, GUARDIAN, The Ol' Jitterbug.
There's not much to say about the gameplay, we're walking, fighting, solving puzzles and climbing ladders with a new ability again. Like in Chapter 3, I haven't found the secret boss yet, but some say THIS chapter shows some of the aftermath of Snowgrave from Chapter 2.
In short, I really liked this chapter, I give it 10/10, seriously, for me it's perfect in all respects. And I hope chapter 5 will be the same, and I'm glad that we won't have to wait too long for it, because it comes out in 2026, as Toby wrote. In general, that's it, these were my impressions of the new chapters of Deltarune, bye everyone, see you maybe in the next posts.
