Howdy!
As the month of March comes to a close, and April begins anew, we're finally releasing yet another progress report showcasing what we've been working on over the past few months.
Since our December devlog, we've gotten quite a lot done! While some of this might not seem way too major, do keep in mind that even the most minor details can make a large difference.
Oh, and before we get into the actual content...
This devlog is NOT a joke, or a prank. Yes, today is April Fools' Day. There are some goofs at the end of today's progress report, but that's the most of it. We are showing off serious content.
Now, let's start!
Overworld Dodging
A functional implementation of a Deltarune-inspired overworld dodging system! Make sure to stay on your toes! We certainly plan to utilize this in more areas than Undertale had with its own system.
Monster Attacks
A whole bunch of brand new attacks for random encounter enemies! Most, if not all of, the individual attacks have been created and are in the process of being coded in-game. We just need to get around to finishing most of the unique combo attacks!
All of Mettacrit’s attacks have been finalized! Once we get around to coding them in-game, and in a functional state, we may show them off in a demo teaser.
Brand new attacks for The Greasers! They’re mostly just unfinished art and concepts for the moment, but we're getting there! Nothing much for us to show off, though...
Writing
While there isn’t way too much to actually show off here, we’ve gotten a great deal of writing for the demo done.
An improved encounter sequence for Mad Dummy was written out a while ago, but finally implemented in-game! This new iteration has more of an informative tutorial aspect to it, as well as more dialogue branches based on your actions.
Mettacrit’s overworld encounter and fight sequence (with unique genocide route variants) have all been written out!
A great deal of dialogue for city NPCs, as well as some concepts and writing for sidequests, have been written!
The Sewer
We're glad to announce that The Sewer, one of the brand new locations of Ruined Home, is pretty much complete! Mostly everything we've wanted to add in has been created and implemented in-game by this point.
...Ignore that one.
The City of Old
A finalized reworked layout for The City of Old! It’s bigger than before, and we plan on including some more activities and NPCs!
Unsatisfied with the City? Well, you can re-enter the sewer, if you'd like to! We plan on having some backtracking content down there, if you're interested in some small secrets and items.
Oh, and... please ignore the clear lack of NPCs for the time being. We plan on adding some pretty soon!
Minor Improvements
Minor updates to in-game assets, most notably the SAVE point! We had gotten some complaints regarding how it looked before, and decided to touch it up.
And some visual improvements for specific doorway transitions!
As well as some tweaks to things as simple as the JOURNAL text! Now, it says that Asgore is jolly!
That's pretty devlog-worthy, huh?
Android Support! Maybe!
No, this isn't a joke! This might come as a bit of a shock to people, as we've only been planning to release TS!Underswap on PC, Mac, and Linux. However, we recently started experimenting with an Android port, thanks to GameMaker Studio 2's tools.
We have the game in working condition on Android devices, and it can be expected to come out on that platform either alongside the PC release, or delayed.
New Music
First up, we have "A Spectacular Specter!" This slow-paced, jazzy theme will play during any overworld encounters with Mettacrit!
Next up, we have "Rock Around The Clock!" This rock and roll-esque theme plays inside of every Grillby's location in the Underground!
While this has been part of our official soundtrack for a few years now, we finally decided to upload it to our SoundCloud. It's one of the original tracks made by our former lead composer, Robin Blend! Go check it out, and definitely check out her stuff, too!
Next up, we have something a little different: "Bugerpant: Origins." This is a theme that we don't plan on having play in-game, but in something quite different...
Which is...!
Bugerpant: Origins
Go check out the premiere at 12:00 PM EST!
Introducing the video that literally nobody saw coming: Bugerpant: Origins. This is a video animation that tells the story of one man, on one day, where everything fell to pieces.
Back in 2018, we had promised a special animated video to commemorate reaching over 22,000 followers on GameJolt. Two years and about 5,000 more followers later, we’re finally making that a reality.
This video was inspired by two semi-scrapped concepts for a video animation, being:
One where Mettacrit is putting on a show in The City of Old, only to end up embarrassing Bugerpant in front of the entire audience--he would then go on to introduce snippets of the demo to the viewer, in a trailer-like format with music (possibly “Tuffer Upper!”) playing.
A Valentine’s Day-themed promotional video with Bugerpant as the main character, who would have a lot of romantically-charged dialogue and weird monologuing. Unfortunately, this didn't happen...
Well, that's all for now! We have even more stuff we'll show off in some future devlogs, but until then...
I wanted to thank you all for following our progress over the years (or however long you personally may have)--we’re excited to show off even more as time goes on!
If you haven’t already, consider following us on Discord, Twitter, and Tumblr! Links are in the description of the GameJolt page.
