Progress Update: The Recent Lack of Information (No, the Game isn't cancelled.)

Why has news been scarce?

Let's start of with this, we apologize for the lack of information on the game over the past seven months. The game isn't cancelled; however we simply happened to lose the lead artist on the team (They lost interest it seems). This loss hasn't set us back in terms of the game's development, but it has hit hard in the field of public reveals.

How does this affect reveals?

For the time being, we don't have anything that we can publicly reveal about any new pokemon or mechanics etc. We're working on a possible alternative, but the fact of the matter is that we just don't have any people on the team capable of creating competent art work for public reveals. We're working on possible sprited artwork as an alternative, but we aren't sure yet.

Progress

Progress has been going pretty great honestly; despite the loss of two members we have gained three new members that specialize in other fields, particularly in music and programming. Despite all these other members we're getting, the matter that holds this back the most currently is the sheer amount of sprites that will need to be created. Tilesets are easy to find, so we're covered in those aspects (Credit will be given to creators of tilesets that we use). There's still tons of overworld character sprites (both new and old) that we need to create as well as a massive amount of pokemon sprites to create. Currently, we intend on bringing a large chunk of pre-existing pokemon to the game; however due to the sheer amount of pre-existing pokemon and out over 140 new pokemon, we simply cannot afford to have all of them in the game. Sword and Shield got a lot of backlash for this reason but we hope you can understand our reasonings which are:

  • This is only a fan-game with a 95% chance of not having online features, meaning that there's certainly going to be a vast number of pokemon that will go unused.

  • Despite the large size of Pokemon Epoch's playable areas, we can't cram over 1000 pokemon into it.

  • Sprites for all Gen6+ pokemon would take us an unnecessarily long amount of time to do, when we should be focusing on the new things we want to include in the game.

Fear not though, all starters and all legendaries from past games will be included. There's a good chance that most pokemon that people like and would want to use from past games will still be included.

Aside from the pokemon, the rest of the game has been going fairly well. We've started getting our soundtrack made as well as coding in several of the locations you'll be visiting in the Petrite Region.

Anyways, thank you for reading this update, and again, we apologize for the lack of news. We'll post again when we have more to show or more progress to discuss!
