I feel like to make a song it should be between 2:30 and 5:00 minutes long. If you're trying to make a story in song form the best thing I've found is like 3:30 to 6:00. Obviously it can be longer or shorter but that seems to be what I've found the best point of it.
And I feel like somebody's gonna comment "but all songs tell stories" or something and yes, that's true. An example of what I mean is Pumped Up Kicks. It's obviously a song, but it tells an actual story about a character. It's catchy, fun to listen to (if you ignore the school shooter bit), all that. But it also is something you can look at the lyrics to and just kinda think about for a while.
Or even Caine's song. The One Who's Running the Show is (at least this is how i interpreted it) a song that happens when Caine, from The Amazing Digital Circus, is just extremely pissed off due to the other characters, from his point of view, tormenting him even though he's trying to "fulfill his purpose." The song itself his really good and has been stuck in my head for days.
it also is like two minutes long but hey i never said you can't tell a story and/or send a message through song in two minutes
I could sound like a crackhead making insane arguments for shit nobody cares about but I feel like it's been a minute since I made a kinda long(ish) post and plus I wanted to talk about something music related. Anyway I'm tired as hell and my fingers hurt now so cya.
And in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
