Ranting with a Hippo: Refreshed 1.6 (by @Pyturret ) thoughts

I need to get a thing or two off my chest

Hey everybody! It's time to address the Orville in the room. This won't be an actual review, but if you want my opinion on it, then know this is definitely an improvement over 1.5, at least on certain aspects. Absolutely worth a play, at least to have an idea on what is up with it. Great fan game, for now the best one released.

So let's put that aside for one second and let's actually talk not about the things it does right, but the things it doesn't instead. I need to rant somewhere and heck, why not do it here? I want to talk not about the things that put a smile on my face, but about the ones that just make my eye twitch a little or sigh a slight bit.

I really wanted to go all out with the mindset to give this fella something akin to an Essential or at least Outstanding review but... I can't. And here are a few reasons, at least for me, as to why.

The skins

Tackling the main gimmick, right? Alas, the skins are a hearty mix of actually good and creative skins, shitposts (which, hey, who am I to judge? We all want some fun and as a skin it's absolutely harmless!) and the just bad skins. Or the weird choices at least. I mean, look at this:

This just looks like a Nightmare Freddy replica. No like, seriously. But probably the ones that are the most offensive are the ones that come from BennetJL's pack available to everyone, because the pack is just not very good in the first place (Catrina Toy Chica is just sad compared to what it should be).

Also the Restocked skin of DeeDee (from @FnafTheVendorTrio ). Great funking skin but I hate how it lost part of its charm by animating it and not leaving the Restocked animation. More frames and more accuracy do not mean a better final result (in case Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse didn't make that clear when it dropped).

But hey, you know, most skins are great, right? I mean, we can discuss FNaF 1 Remake skins and whether they're actually good or not the whole day, but to be direct, the main problem with the skins aren't the skins themselves. So what's the issue?

Why do characters you'll need to abandon fast have so many different skins? Like Freddy, Foxy, Bonnie, Chica... why? They are bad in the grand scheme of things. As soon as you get to Candy Cadet you probably got a completely different team. You'd have to cripple yourself to see them. But the worst offender is that later on characters have a lot less skins. There are some which are just weird. Like this one:

How? Why does Paperpals have zero skins? They aren't the only ones, but I mean come on, there's even one very obvious skin for them. But you know what? Off the top of my head, let me just propose a few, free of charge:

  • Pizzeria Simulator Paperpals (how the heck is this not a skin already?)

  • Animatronic Paperpals. Wouldn't it be fun to see them like that?

  • Shadow Paperpal from Rewritten 87. You haven't seen something like that before, right?

  • @DerekGamer made a really cool Paperpals animation based on what he had in his room. It would be nice to reference somebody in the community too!

How hard was this? I'm not saying my ideas have descended from heaven to grace our feeble minds, I'm just saying that heck, I took like 30 seconds to come up with these. Perhaps the skins should've been more equally distributed and they should give everybody the chance to play as their favorite characters no matter which they might be (Rockstar Foxy is another one who just... doesn't have skins for some reason).

The new models

Sigh, all right. The other elephant in the room. All of the new models are really great. Great models, great animations. But here's something that I don't think practically any FNaF World modeler I've seen (except @LivingCorpse7 , at least for now) has understood in my opinion. What exactly does the Adventure style entail?

It's about accuracy up to a point, not just having chibi characters, but having them between being cute and being still themselves. No, heck, let me bring back Killtimber for a second. Look at @LivingCorpse7 's Killtimber to give you an idea:

screenshot_2026-01-03_at_75042am.png

Ah, now that's a good Killtimber interpretation. You can't see it from here, but there are gears too in the chest. Look at the model for the head, how the teeth are placed and all. This is distinctly a Nightmare design but it exists as its own thing, with its own identity. It's accurate to the actual Killtimber but only up until a certain point. You can even compare where it's broken and see what I mean. This, in my opinion, is the Adventure style.

Now, look, Refreshed models based on Scott's original models aren't bad at all (even though some textures have seen better days), but that's only because they're based on models that are in the Adventure style already. The new models are... not very good. At least, again, the ones from the BennetJL pack (yes, I have problems with it. It's mediocre but the only one which is widely available).

But let's talk about the real redesigns. Let's talk about the Withereds. They are great redesigns. Seriously, great. But, in my opinion, they aren't in the Adventure style. Not quite. Ack, they're painfully close to it but I think they have one slight problem.

They're slightly too chubby. Like ever so slightly. Like, look at Withered Bonnie:

screenshot_2026-01-03_at_75920am.png

Let's compare it to the FNaF World original:

screenshot_2026-01-03_at_80036am.png

The extra details are appreciated! The wires, the way the mask was ripped, the upper Endo jaw missing. Great details! But see how the face is more square? This is something that's true for every Adventure model: the face is a bit square for animatronics like Bonnie or Freddy. The new remodel is too damn chubby to pass off as an actual Adventure model!

Look at me, nitpicking this and not appreciating the remodel! No, but seriously, it's at odds with the other original models. I'm fine with models like those if they take the Revelations route (or heck, @Weirado 's route too) and just remodel everybody. That would be better! Imagine how cool it would be! Then there would be no need to discuss about Adventure style, because it would just be whatever their style is!

The gameplay

It has not changed at all compared to 1.5. It's too easy, even on Hard Mode. And let's not start with gimmicks like the shield, which is a fun addition but not really as useful as you might think.

The game-play is the same, the optimization is basically the same (not very good. And thanks to that, I couldn't see cutscenes either. But it's a me problem so I need to deal with it), and overall we're just looking at something which is just too damned easy.

But here are two things making it even easier:

  • Buffs stack up on timer. Were you fast enough to trigger Birthday before its effects ended? Bravo, you got more seconds on the clock. That's way too cracked! A character can just spam buffs and debuffs in the early game and then have super smooth sailing for the rest of the time. You shouldn't be able to do that! You should make it more difficult not even easier

  • Cupcakes and healing moves can bring characters back from the dead. WHY? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? Now when you are dead you have negative HP, so if by healing you become positive again, you revive. This is nuts! Why is it this cracked?

So the game-play is still poor as you can see. Nothing done to change that at all, and this is a game we're talking about, so it's the main point.

But here's an argument in defense of this! "FNaF World was like this too!" Ah, why didn't I think of that? Never mind then, let's bring down this show, you are definitely correct, I was stupid and did not get this at first-

No. Stop. It is so stupid to fix something like this. Just play with the movesets. Move characters around. Make enemies harder. Trust me, balancing the difficulty is easier than you think, even if it takes time. You already have every model and enemy needed, just tweak them to perfection. You just don't want to do it. You'd rather have SSJ3 Freddy.

Yeah... that about covers it for now. Phew, it felt nice to write this out! So... what do you think? Do you agree or disagree with what I said? I'd love to know!
