Howdy! Jaclyn here. Just poppin in to remind y'all that this project is on indefinite hiatus until further notice.
I've been experimenting and working on other less ambitious projects, such as the Knothole Village interactive VRC world. As I've been working on these I've been learning new techniques and skills that I didn't have before, such as improving my animation skills and learning to 3D model.
That said, I think it'd be a bad idea to jump into Sulky Sad Bobcat and the Misfit Mascots without these skills and not making sure the plans behind the project are solid and doable.
As I continue to learn more and grow as a person, artist, and realize my potential as a game dev, I'm continuing to rethink my ideas and goals for my projects so I can execute them as well as I can. I feel like I used to have a habit of jumping into big projects right away and attempt to learn as I go on, only to get burnt out and doubt myself and fumble and screw up my approach. Y'know, instead of starting with small projects and participating in other people's projects to experiment and learn with. So that's what I've been up to.
I want Sulky Sad Bobcat to be well designed, to look good, to sound good, to have good writing with a positive message. As for how big the game will end up being, I'll probably have to cut it down quite a bit and rework and improve a lot of concepts. Maybe even completely rethink the gameplay, because as much as I liked Mario RPG, I don't think I'm suited to design a JRPG even with heavy platformer and action elements even if I have help. An action platformer is more appropriate for me I'm realizing, so once I'm feeling like doing this project again, I'll try going that route and see how I feel. Might even go 3D with it what with my new-found 3D modeling skills. Who knows.
Anyway, have some screenshots of some of the things I've been up to with the Sonic SATAM stuff.
