In our last Devlog, we discussed the changes made to the Crimson's AI (Crimson, or the 'Freak' if you're an old-school follower of the project). Today, I want to go over a few of the finer points about that. Suffice to say, it's a substantial improvement that adds further tension during your exploration of the Greenhaven Library.
As mentioned previously, rather than just popping up randomly out of the blue, the Crimson now actively patrols areas of the Library, searching for you. It is fully aware of its surroundings - obviously, if it sees you, it will hunt you down - but now, there are more intricacies involved. Having your Lighter equipped will make you easier to spot, so careful management and taking a few risks in the darkness are critical to your survival.
Beyond that, the Crimson is also aware of sounds in its environment. If you run around carelessly and make a lot of noise in the process while the Crimson is nearby? You can bet on it that its going to hear you - and begin pursuing you.
With regards to its behavior, the Crimson will chase you throughout the winding pathways of the Library - simply entering a new room will not save you. You'll just have to shake him off and try not to get caught. There may be plans to implement a system where the player can hide in lockers, etc. to evade the Crimson's pursuit, though this is still in prototyping and not a confirmed feature as of yet.
