First of all, what are these?
A Wazageki is an art battle and an Otogeki is a music battle.
How do they work?
It all starts with someone inviting another person to a Wazageki/Otogeki. Then they decide a deadline for their works to be finished, and decide who will be the judge(s). The judge(s) can be anyone, even themselves. Then they decide the details of what they are going to do and decide the rules. They can even put prizes if they want. Then the battle starts. The participants are free to send their works in the channel "the-arena" whenever they finish it as long as its before the deadline. They are also allowed to send WIP versions or teasers. When the deadline arrives, the judges will choose one of the works over the other one and the person who gets chosen by most judges will win. The judges will explain why they think one is better and they will explain how the other one can be improved.
What will I gain from participating in one?
First of all, you won't really get anything physical out of it (except the works you have made). Wazageki's and Otogeki's may seem pointless at first sight, but their main point is to improve your skills and have fun doing it. It is basically a fun way to practice and its a great way to see how good your skills are and it will hopefully teach you a lot.
"Why would I even participate in one if I'm sure I will lose?"
Don't think that way. Losing is the whole point of these battles. Losing will let you see your weaknesses, will help you to get over them and will help you to improve. Be confident and believe in yourself. Turn your losses into your motivation. Stay determined, work hard and make sure to win next time!
