MSA V3, the original build known as the Chrono Distortion One, has been cancelled. Have you even paid attention to me since its release? Have you ever asked why I had to do it, or why I made that decision? I’ll tell you personally so you can stop pushing for the v3.0 or 3.5 Rewrite release. This isn’t me trying to insult the audience, stop thinking the other way around. If you’ve been keeping up, I canceled Chrono Distortion v3.0 due to my unstable mental state and lack of motivation. The ending takes place after the final fight against D-Man in Final Test, where Metal Sonic loses and is forced to be rebuilt. Even though the version was canceled, I had no desire to continue the story. The game’s anniversary was in December, but unfortunately, Rewrite V3.5 was nowhere near ready for release, so plans for build were scrapped.
The purpose of "The Rewrite" Metal Sonic Apparition build is to correct the story and gameplay philosophy compared to the original versions. With Rewrite v3.0 available on Game Jolt, I’ll be answering plenty of questions about its development, so there’s no need to worry about any sudden cancellations.
1. What are the origins of The Perfect Metal you mentioned in the "His Last Creations" teaser video?
A: The Perfect Metal has many origins to uncover, but only a few will be revealed here—the rest are for the game. One example comes from the Special Stages in Sonic that feature the “Sacrifice” mechanic. Collecting the Time Stone unlocks an extra stage revealing part of the origin.
Picking the wrong path leads to a death scene; while successfully obtaining the Time Stone gives a Good Ending that subtly teases another round, introducing a new character. In the Rewrite version, Eggman will not have a death scene, as Metal Sonic is his creator and wants Eggman’s thoughts on his self-upgrade, which ensures Eggman’s survival. The way to access this will be different, but that’s it.
2: What's the difference between Chrono Distortion v3 and Rewrite v3.0 releases?
A: The OG V3.0 featured an eye creature called Debugger, or D-Man for short, along with Metal Sonic's Final Level, and some levels could be accessed in alternative ways without using the Sound Test. The Rewrite version is essentially a corrected version of MSA, with improved levels that have their own mechanics—like Desolated Brain for Metal, where you need to recharge the battery, or Wild Wood 1 for Tails, where you face wind pushing you back, similar to Mario the Lost Levels (also refers to Allstars) - More you will see by yourself.
3: Does the Perfect Metal have the ability to regenerate damage, and are there any weaknesses similar to parasites from the Venom movie?
A: A lot of people on my Discord have asked about this. After Metal bonded with the parasite, he gained the ability to regenerate from any injury, similar to Metal Cooler from DBZ: Return of Cooler and Perfect Cell restoring his body after revival, though this case is different. In Metallic Madness Act 3 for Knuckles, Metal revealed his new form and wanted to show it off. Knuckles didn’t know Metal could heal from damage, but Metal used half his power to burn the Hidden Palace. In the v3.5 build, this will be fixed by featuring a regular Metallic Madness fight with new attacks and more routes for him which could transition to Hidden Palace/Burned Ashes.
4: Will the original Drowning Theme from Chrono Distortion be reused in the Rewrite V3.5 build?
A: I originally planned to rework it but seeing that so many people loved it with nearly 105K views, I’ve decided to reuse it to fit the theme of Hidden/Burned Ashes Act 3.
Last Question: Any news about the sequel to Rewrite?
A: Once you collect all 7 Time Stones in the V3.5 Build, the sequel will be revealed, featuring Eggman surviving instead of dying as previously stated. Metal shows Eggman his various forms and seeks his opinion, adding some intense lore to the story. In the sequel, Metal—now called The Perfectionist Metal (his final form using Miracle Form or Miracle Metal Sonic)—along with the Parasites, suggests to Eggman that instead of upgrading the badniks, he could research biological hazards and spread them across Mobius. This sets the stage for other characters in *Metal Sonic Apparition: The Biological War* (a placeholder title) to face the threat of biological misuse combined with upgraded badniks.
