Captain Proton: Panic On Planet X

Story/Level Outline

So, all three episodes of the game will have an open world (almost) quality to them. Basically, like Metroid or Legend of Zelda, you can go to any of the locations on the map, but you’ll ultimately have an official order to them. Although, I’ll make it so that you aren’t absolutely required to go through them inthat order. For example, you could skip the first level in the order and complete the second one first, but you’ll need an item for the first to go to the third. Something like that.

The storyline goes like this:

You’re Captain Proton, space adventurer. A former captain in the Robrinian Space Force, you left their military a few years ago to make your own way, as you were tired of all of the bureaucracy and corruption in it. Having your own ship built, the Slim Cat, you set off for adventure. Although said-adventure seems to mostly entail import/export, which isn’t exactly the most interesting sort of adventuring.

One day while flying a fighter subcraft to scout the mysterious Planet X as a potential source for silver and gold, you’re shot down by a Rathborian Empire Cloaking Bird. As it turns out, the Rathborians are swarming around Planet X, and they don’t like anybody nosing in on their business.

After crash landing your subship in the jungle, you’re contacted by your lead pilot Starbug. He tells you the bad news: 29% of your ship is damaged, and most of the damage is to vital parts of the ship. Even worse, Planet X is crawling with Rathborians, who have built bases already. The good news is that most of the damage can be repaired by the ReBots, but you’ll have to find a replacement part and another hard-to-get item. You’ll have to find an engine converter, and Red Glow to power both your ship and to be able to use your hyperdrive to get through the Rathborian defense safely.

Fortunately, both of those shouldn’t be too difficult to obtain, if the Rathborians don’t put up much of a fight.

You must now venture across the planet, to various locations, in search of an engine converter and Red Glow. However, what you’ll discover is far worse than just Rathborians inhabiting Planet X. A plan of war is under way by the Rathborians to take over Robrinloth, by threatening the use of a power secret weapon known only as “Weapon-X” if the Robrinians don’t have over control of the planet to the Rathborians.

That’s the basic storyline. The first episode will be comprised of Captain Proton getting off of the planet. The next episode will probably involve Captain Proton fighting against the Rathborians. The third and final episode will see Captain Proton trying to infiltrate the Rathborians Domeship in deep space and destroy Weapon-X before they can use it on Robrinloth.

I figure each episode will have one big boss, while there may be one or two smaller bosses along the way. The first boss will most likely be a rogue Morp working for the Rathborians named Mingus, who fights you inside of his “Terrible Murder Machine”, a large Mechsuit with powerful weapons at his disposal.

Lastly, I’m doing some long-term planning. I’d like to make Captain Proton a sort of franchise-character, with a series of games involving him. Ultimately, however, the fictional universe that Captain Proton exists in is a very large, very rich story that could encompass a lot more games than just ones involving Captain Proton. After the first Captain Proton game (with its three episodes), I’ll try to put a small team together and begin work on Captain Proton 2. But like I said, this is a long-term goal and I’m not particularly worried about working on a sequel yet.

More to come. Thanks for reading. :)
