Captain Proton: Panic On Planet X

Captain Proton: Panic On Planet X (working title) is an action-adventure platformer game I'm going to work on, that started out as a mere little technical demo for a different bigger game I was going to work on, but turned into a full blown game concept with a large story behind it, and a larger-than-life character.

Captain Proton: Panic On Planet X is an homage to classic DOS platformers like Duke Nukem 1 & 2, Commander Keen, Jill of the Jungle, Bio Menace, Secret Agent, and Xargon.

The story takes place in the fictional Colossus Universe, where you play as the Robrinian space adventurer Captain Proton as he fights to protect the planet of Robrinloth against the evil forces of the Rathborians and their leader, Zarphagon, who threatens to use a mysterious weapon called "Weapon-X" against the planet if they don't hand over control of it to the Rathborian Empire.

The game will be mainly platform action, with adventure elements. You'll jump across a few planets in your space ship, the Slim Cat, fighting increasingly tough enemies (and a few bosses thrown in). You'll collect power ups and various items which will help you continue to progress. You'll find upgrades to your blaster, armor, and health, aim with your mouse, and even fly through space in a fighter ship and travel through an underground Rathborian base in a super-fast jetskate. The graphics won't be top notch (hey, I'm not an artist, so sue me), and will be on the cartoony side (unless I can find an artist willing to work with me).

A good number of video game/movie/TV show/book references, easter eggs, and comedy all around. The game will be as toned down as possible (in terms of violence, bloodshed, things like that) so that it can be played by kids as well as adults (and both groups having just as much fun with it as the other).

I hope to get this done within two months' time, and afterwards I'll promote it further as well as continue work on the next episode. That's right, Captain Proton will have episodes. Three, in fact. Panic On Planet X is just the first, with all the episodes tying in with one another as part of the same storyline.
