STRANGE JOURNEY LOG VERSION 0.3 IS OUT!
This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest release I've ever done. This update adds almost 20 characters, TONS of content in the form of new paths to take on the campaign, as well as the long delayed chapter 2 (kinda........)
New Development
If you've been keeping up recently you'd know that I started developing games differently.
With these new changes, Strange Journey Log was supposed to remain my main project. Unfortunately, this was just not the case in the long run, and the game hasn't received any noteworthy development in the last 2 and a half months.
Regardless, I released the trailer in December knowing that the update was practically complete content-wise. I backed down on the promise of the 50 characters in this update, which I hope you can all understand.
So, what happened? Why the """lack""" of content complete?
Motivation And How To Obliterate It
I can make rash decisions sometimes. I think we all do at some point. When I was younger, I would constantly be starting new games out of the blue without finishing the previous ones, and nothing big ever got released. When I started Strange Journey Log in 2024, the plan was to NOT make that mistake any more. I planned to work on the game exclusively until it was done. Of course, my ADHD brain can NOT allow that to happen when the game takes over a year and a half to develop. And thus, in December of 2025, I decided to begin working on several new games.
As a result, Strange Journey Log was simply left in the background, out of focus and certainly not out of mind. A few weeks passed and I realised that I needed to get this update out. The trailer had already been out for a few weeks, and I hadn't even finished the update yet.
2 months passed. Nothing, except Toy Freddy and Toy Bonnie had been added to the game. Yay.
And now. I've decided that I refuse to continue allowing procrastination get the better of me, but my motivation to work on the game has been pummelled so badly I just can't get myself to work on it. I've released the game.
What's in the Update?
Ok, pause. I feel like I'm making this update sound effortless. Don't take that impression. This is still the biggest release I've ever done, for sure. And I would be flat out lying if I said that this update was disappointing.
The update features:
-Subtitles for the gameplay.
-A plethora of new characters.
-An entire Undertale themed route for the chapter 1 campaign.
-An entirely 3D forest route for the chapter 1 campaign.
-LOTS more.
I am mostly impressed by the two new routes for the campaign. Both of them I believe are very enjoyable and unique, and I was astounded to see that I could pull off a fully 3D environment! As to how you obtain these routes? Well, the Undertale or "Dismantle" Route is found by getting the crowbar from Jonathan in night 2 after having gotten the journal from the man behind the building in night 1. On night 2, Freddy causes a cutscene where you lose control of your movement as he approaches the door. If you shut the door, you get a cutscene like normal. If you leave it open whilst you have the crowbar, however, you will begin the dismantle route. You'll probably be able to naturally encounter the rest of the route from there. Although I will tell you that you need to go to the Foxy minigame on night 3 around the side of the building as well.
The Forest Route can be found by simply going to the far right of the road every night, with a new challenge being found there each night.
I'm sorry if anything isn't properly understandable, is buggy, or seems poorly written in any parts of this update. I don't want to work on this version of the game anymore, so there probably won't be any patches unless they are super serious.
The update is obviously not finished either. I have tried my hardest to playtest and fix what I can, but I don't want to spend another few weeks having playtesting going on without releasing the game.
Future Plans For Strange Journey Log
So, what's next? I can't lie this is certainly the best game I've made to date. It's also the biggest. The reason I don't want to continue this game is because it's unoptimized and FAR to ambitious. It's only ~35% complete, and already has nearly 50 characters, a roguelike integrated into it, undertale, 3D-- so so so so so much more. It's stupidly ambitious, and it's trying to be everything, and that was the plan. But I've now realised how much of a pain it can be to develop such a game, and I realise that I need to make more specific games that don't try to cater to everything.
I don't necessarily want to cancel this game. But I won't be developing this version anymore. Instead, I plan to remake the game in the future as either multiple smaller games or as a more specific game, probably just the roguelike aspect.
This won't be anytime soon. At all.
I've already planned out most of 2026, and have a general basis of 2027. Strange Journey Log is not on that roadmap, at least not currently. If it returns, it will be a long way away. I also don't want people to only see me as just the "Big FNaF Scratch Game Guy", although I do encourage anybody new to my profile to check out Strange Journey Log, it just isn't what I want to be primarily known as.
Instead, I want people to see what else I've been working on. I encourage you all to join the FNaF Dev Plaza Discord where I'm extremely active, and post more updates on my development.
Wrapping Up
Thank you for reading this post. I hope you understand the reasons for the delay, and discontinuation of this game for now. I'm not sure what I'll do with it in the meantime. But I highly suggest looking at my upcoming games for this year. I'm sorry if this has been a disappointment of sorts, but it's for the better.
