Tangle the Lemur started as an idea for a cool new girl who could travel with Sonic the Hedgehog. The writers at IDW Publishing wanted a character who could do exciting things on Sonic’s adventures, but none of the existing female characters fit the job (not even Amy Rose, unfortunately). Writer Ian Flynn came up with the idea, and artist Tyson Hesse drew her.
At first, the team imagined a rabbit who could use her ears to grab and throw objects, so they even called her “Tangle the Hare.” While thinking about different animals, they decided a lively ring-tailed lemur would be even more fun. They gave her a special power: she can stretch her long tail and use it like a whip to tangle up bad guys. That’s how Tangle the Lemur was created, a brave, energetic friend for Sonic with a tail that works like a handy weapon!
