I really thought I had it this time. And I am very sorry.
The release of the Test 1 remake update has been delayed.
By how much? Can't say.
I hate breaking my word and especially this time around where I only got time to publish this devlog 2 days before the original release, so I'll explain myself with this smaller devlog.
What? The update got delayed? Why?
I got impatient and set a deadline way too early and the game is still not finished, there's a lot of other stuff in my life going on too all happening at once and it has stressed me out a ton.
This is my fault honestly, you should never make a promise you can't live up to. And I apologize to everyone who wanted to play the update this Sunday.
I want this to be something special. The very first version of Depper Jar (1.0.0) actually got rushed too to released on my birthday.
(Which I couldn't do and that's why the game released on October 27th instead of October 26th fun fact.)
And I don't want to do the same mistake again, I wanna make it right.
Why the October 27th release date then?
That date made sense to me back then, like, it felt I was kinda close to finishing the game, most of the features were finished, it's the anniversary of the game, etc, etc.
But seriously, the main reason to this whole thing is, you know, the new M&L game.
I wanted to release the game before Brothership because I was in fear of the game taking Depper Jar's spotlight or whatever. And now that I'm thinking about this while writting it that feeling was so stupid, so I'll say this instead:
By the time you're reading this, if you have the opportunity to buy and play Mario & Luigi: Brothership don't think twice and do it.
Play it, support the series, talk about it, share it with friends, share it in social media, and appreciate it because it's finally back.
I have a huge spot in my heart for the M&L series and it's crazy that is just back, just like that, it's around the corner and I'm gonna be able to play it in a few days.
The first time I played Superstar saga (my favorite game in the series) I was probably 8, I emulated it on a PC with Windows XP that couldn't run the GBA emulator perfectly.
When I got my 3DS I always wanted to own Dream Team and I remember spending so much time on that demo they had on the eshop, I also have this very vague memory of me being angry at someone at Carl's Jr for openning and clossing the demo because it wasted the limited uses.
Those old and delicated memories of my weird childhood are what I appreciate the most from the Mario & Luigi games, they give me so much comfort and joy that I struggle to find in the present.
If you're a big Mario & Luigi fan like me then please, buy the Mario & Luigi: Brothership game and support the series.
What's left for the release? What happens now?
While the forest zone is (for the most part) done layout-wise and all of the enemies are finished, the game is still in a very incomplete state.
Cutscenes and the boss fight are far from being done, some items haven't been implemented, all of the main features of the game are already complete but there's one small thing I have never talk about and I still haven't coded yet, which is also gonna take me some time to add into the game too.
There's actually a lot of stuff I haven't talk about before and it took me some time to put togheter, like the new story and how equipment works now.
For now, I'll be working on the game every day until I consider the update ready to be released and I won't make any devlogs until that happens.
Meanwhile, if you still wanna see how the development is going you can check my Bluesky account, where I like to post videoclips from time to time, like this one:
(I know that's a gif but Gamejolt doesn't allow you to directly upload videos for whatever reason.)
So when is the game going to release now?
I don't know anymore.
I'd like to say soon but I don't wanna give a specific date or month because I would be just guessing now.
When the time finally arrives I'll just make a quick post with the new actual release date, and if you see that post it's because the game is actually finished this time around, so don't worry about it.
Conclusion
I'm very sorry for this whole situation but I promise I'm trying my hardest to deliver the best thing I could make.
TLDR;
The Test 1 remake got delayed until further notice (not in haitus nor cancelled)
The game is currently in a very incomplete state
I'm doing my best to make the game as good as it can be
Please support the M&L series buying Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Thank you all for reading this devlog and I'll see you hopefully soon.
