Hey everyone.
So, for some reason, Depper Jar seems to be getting more attraction recently, so it felt like a proper time to make one of these devlogs while I'm still working on 2.0.
If this is the first devlog you're reading then hi and welcome!
I'm Tortas Max! I'm making Depper Jar, and I'm working on a huge major update that changes the whole game and it has been in development since April from last year and I thought it be out in October 2024!
... we're on June 2025.
Update 2.0 Progress

If you didn't see my previous post I basically said that 2.0 is on a playable state where it can be played from start to finish, all the enemies are coded in, most of the equipment was implemented and the entire overworld was also finished.
This didn't mean the game is done however, as a quarter of the game's content hasn't been implemented yet, that being the new boss fight of Test 1, the story cutscenes, other stuff I haven't reveal yet and just other things that's not interesting enough to mention. Since the previous post I also took the time to re-do smaller parts of the game that felt unpolished or were a struggle on the playtesters's playthroughs too. (Which led me into adding more bits of content here and there...)

By the way, it's really hard to balance the stats of the enemies and characters when you're the only one that plays the game. It also gets really tiring playing the same game every day since you were 15 years old.
Anyway. What am I doing this time?
At the moment, I'm still working on the boss fight of the new Test 1, taking the place of Sylver's fight from the previous versions. I'm specifically designing and coding all of his attacks, and these are the kinds of things that take me the longest when making this game.
(I don't usually code an attack until I'm 100% sure it will feel good in-game, and I'm also still figuring how an actual boss fight would play out on the current "era" of the game with all the new gameplay features it has. This has proven to be very difficult.)
WIP footage:

Regardless, this is by far the most complicated and fun encounter of the game, and I can't wait to see the playtesters's reactions!
What's left then?
After the boss fight gets finished I'll quickly start working on the story cutscenes of the game (this includes spriting, writting dialog, and maybe composing), I'll also make an entire tutorial for the battle system I haven't done yet (which on itself is another battle encounter), and more boring unrelated stuff like making a new title screen and savefile screen for the game.
Only after all of that the game would be considered ready to be released.
I'm aware I probably have a feature-creep problem or a scope-creep problem or whatever, but I don't want to release 2.0 until it has everything it needs at release, so it can be as both enjoyable and accessible as possible.
When will 2.0 release?
I'm honestly not sure anyone, and I don't feel confident enough to give a release window either. I don't want to keep guessing if this is gonna be the time where the stars and planets aline and I get to finish 2.0 like in previous devlogs.
In relation to this, I'm the only person that is working on this game and If I'm not doing anything then the game doesn't progress. It's not like I want it in any other way either as I do enjoy doing everything myself, but my poor mental health drags me down by a ton, and this includes the game too.
Still, I'm just gonna keep working on the game and making devlogs until there's nothing left to work on.
(I actually do have a small team of 3 friends who have done amazing stuff for depperjar in the past but I never ask them to do anything because I prefer doing all by myself. Regarless of that, they're really talented, kind and amazing people, shoutouts to luff, Ray "theradguy" Mike, Xeron)
In conclusion
If you still have some questions about the project you can write down in the comments section and I'll try to anwser as soon as posible. There was a lot of other stuff I wish I could've talk about here but there's not enough done to show yet, so I'll adress it in a future devlog too.
Thank you for reading this and thank you for following the game!
I'll see you later in a future devlog!
(Did you like the new logo and the new font of the game?)
