Let’s start with the ugly: it’s the game. While I am proud of how far Him has come within this year, there’s a lot of games with far less work or less dev time that looks better than Him. With this being my first 3D game I want it to look good comparably even if I have little game modeling experience. So I’m going to try my best to add detail to the game. Small things like trim around baseboards, UV mapping rather than exporting in color, etc.
The bad should be next. The game is going to take longer to finish. And the finish product won’t be 60 fps. My goal is to be able to run the game on my pc to give everyone a chance to play it, not just those with beefy gaming PCs. I’m targeting for 30 fps (for now). Part of my problem is the game engine being new. Part of the problem is my modeling abilities. Part of my problem is this being my first 3D game and not understanding all optimization.
Now for some good news. This project isn’t going to be dropped. There might be delays while I’m learning or personal matter etc but it won’t die. And maybe someday I can revisit it and make it better, or remake it in 60 fps with better graphics and such. But for now, my focus is getting the best look out of 30 fps as I can.
