The Man
Alpha Release v1.5
1.5 has arrived!
Greetings, cowboys! We’ve been hard at work fleshing out our ideas, polishing, and cleaning up systems within the game. Many additions and fixes have been made in order for this to be the best version of the game to date. We have been focusing on things that make the game fun and as we continue to develop the game, we hope you enjoy what we have so far! Without further ado, we present The Man 1.5:
One of the first things we did was completely re-write the entire weapon system. Our new system allows us to effortlessly add new, unique weapons into the game. We have added 3 new weapons in 1.5:
• Crank-action machine gun
• Bullseye rifle
• TNT!
All of these new weapons are available in the General Store in the Willowflats. Each weapon has its own benefits and drawbacks. The machine gun is fully automatic and has a high rate of fire, but deals low damage and is mildly inaccurate. The rifle has pinpoint accuracy and extremely high damage but is held back by a low fire rate and longer reload times. TNT is great for clearing large hordes of robots, as long as you can spare the bucks for it! Each of these weapons offers a unique tactical advantage.
Another major addition that was made in 1.5 is the new ‘Bomber’ enemy type! These poor little bastards have had their arms detached and a cluster of TNT strapped to their back. They’re fast, they’re dangerous, and they’re robots so they don’t feel pain! Bombers spawn more rarely but can quickly make their way to your house to suddenly destroy the first fence it touches (and itself in the process). Don’t let them get past your fences! They will explode dealing 50 points of damage to your house. Don’t be too afraid though, they have very little health and are easy to kill provided you can catch the thing before it’s too late.
Trophies, score system, and leaderboards, finally! In 1.4 we had a really butchered attempt at leaderboards. We ultimately removed it in 1.4.1 because it sucked and it wasn’t even using the GameJolt API. We are now using the GameJolt leaderboard system to upload scores so you can tell all your buddies you’re a legend at bustin’ metal. Instead of just uploading player’s highest survived wave, we opted to create a new scoring system. Grunts have 100 health so killing one grants you 100 points. Now kill a grunt by headshot and you get 150 points! Headshots add (health/2) points to the normal score. Same principle goes for the new Bombers, except they have half the health which means half the points. In addition to this, at the end of each wave you get 1,000 points. Your scores are uploaded automatically at the end of each game. If you aren’t logged in to GameJolt (you login at the main menu) then your score will be uploaded as a guest.
We think the scoring system really adds to the gameplay and we hope you have fun setting new records!
