In his dream life, Ken was a police officer, freshly graduated from the police academy, full of enthusiasm, a strong sense of justice, and a touch of naivety. His dream was to help people and make the world a better place. But on his very first day on duty, reality hit him like a cold shower.
The precinct he was assigned to was rundown, overburdened, and full of disillusioned officers, most of whom had long since shifted into survival mode. The seasoned cops he was supposed to work with were distant and dismissive.
“You’ll learn soon enough, kid—heroes don’t last long around here,” said an older officer who spent most of his day drinking coffee and complaining.
Ken tried to connect, to ask questions, to learn—but he was constantly pushed away. As the days went by, his enthusiasm slowly drained. He began having more and more nightmares, in which his colleagues appeared only as shadowy figures with whispering voices, laughing at him. The city he once dreamed of saving started to twist into something distorted and unrecognizable.
