This might sound a bit specific, but what if we were able to sort our notifications by what it's for?
Kind of like what Scratch uses.
For example, we could click a button which has a little drop down menu that says something like "View notifications by different type" and you could select to view notifications that are for mentions, follows, comments, etc.
This could be handy for people who get a lot of fanart and would be pinged in fanart posts, but might find it difficult to find fanart, say, if they want to compile it into one post (a pinned post with fanart).
