I am a massive Gamejolt user, I spend a lot of time on it. So much that it starts to scare me.
Here is 20 different ideas that came to my mind while spending time on the site. Get ready! I really put a huge effort in it, I hope you'll enjoy. Open this post in another tab, it will be easier to read.
Staff that HAS to read this: @cros
@YLivay
@nilllzz
@nik
@thoro ![]()
Have you ever got something like this huge before?
Also can you spot the little easter egg?
1. Gamejolt staff icon

To make it look more obvious (since now comments, posts support user badges), the staff could carry a special badge, maybe the Gamejolt logo.
Pros: unlike the "name-tag" MOD or GUY, it would immediately show up next to the username.
2. Activate/Inactivate friend requests
You should be able to turn on and off that request button. Non-verified people can disable them that way. (And verified people can enable it
)
The option would be displayed below the "Enable shouts" option in the Edit Profile tab:
3. Donation pool
I haven't made any design for this one, but simply a button that says Donate on the user's profile. The money will be transferred from the donator's Gamejolt wallet the other account, with the possibility to add a message.
The user will be able even to set goals, for example $100 with a little progress bar. The top donators name and profile picture will be displayed below the button (optional).
If there aren't any goals, the amount of donated currency is hidden.
4. Notifications
4.1 Settings
On the notification page, we should be able to enable or disable some type of notifications, such as mentions, replies, follows, comments...
We wouldn't get a +1 on the notification counter on those we disabled, they will still appear in our notifications, but only on the Notification page (not the quick look thing), and on that page they should have a more transparent look.
4.1 Raising messages limit
I've seen that the counter blocks at 100 messages, it could be interesting to remove the limit or put it to something like 1000, I don't think anyone gets that many messages.

5. Emojis
5.1 New emojis
Sooooooooooo? I had shown those I came up with, they got buried, so I'm bringing this up one more time:

(I came up with a :wink: icon because it's really the one that shouldn't be left out)
Send me a message and I will attach the icons in a reply.
5.2 Pixelization of pixel emojis
The emoji image should definitely be displayed with the following CSS:
#css
.pixmoji{
image-rendering: pixelated;
}
This would fit the emoji's style a lot more and give you some nice sharp results! See below:
1. Not pixelated, blurry

2. Pixelated, sharp

Smol difference...
5.3 Adding stylesheet icons
It would be great for a few reasons to be able to embed Gamejolt icons into comments, descriptions. For example when you add a link to your Twitter, Facebook or Youtube profile on your game page, you could do this cool trick:

They could be added simply like this to the emoji menu. It's made out of two tabs, emojis are the one displayed by default.

6. Images in Bio
The possibility to add images in the bio would open a huge door to creative people (I'm one of them
) and could add a lot of interesting things to spice up their description!

Debunking cons: I know @Cros
wasn't that enthusiastic about adding pictures in game descriptions a few years ago, and that's probably the exact same reason why they disabled it in the bio section: people destroying their profile page, adding tall picture to mess with the page's design.
I personally think that the ... button is already resolving this issue. You could also add a limit for image heights, for the amount of image (maybe 2 or 3). And let's face it, some users can indeed make a mess out of their profile page, but it's their page, it's their business.
Pros: I would be eagerly waiting to see what people come up with!
6.1 Raising the bio limit before ... shows up
The height limit is very short before you have to click to display more of the text. I think it should be raised by 2 or 3 more lines!
Yes, it's still going on... I wonder if Gamejolt has a size limit...
7. Collaborators icon on gamepage
It would be nice to know who's working on the game, so it could be a good tool for crediting!

This is a good opportunity also to add a "collaborator" who has no control over the game page, but still appears in the Collaborators list.

Side note: I really think a 3rd collaboration role like that should be added. I have some people who helped me and I'd like to add them to the collaborators list to credit them, but I don't want to grant them the ability to change the game description for example. Though whenever they write a comment it would be great to have the Collaborator text showing up next to their name.
8. Rich image editor
It would epic to have the ability to resize an image in the descriptions or posts (sometimes they are showing up way too big), change the horizontal alignment (left, center, right), and maybe even the possibility to put several picture on one line (inline images).

Clicking on the image would bring up that black menu and the small squares to resize the image.
9. Fully customizable 2nd color
We are able to choose a primary color, or use Gamejolt's 2 color presets. It would be cool to add a feature where you can choose your primary and secondary color. The design for it didn't turn out that well, but here is what I came up with:

10. Verified profiles
10.1 Requesting verification
I'm not sure if the "account verification" is getting more and more done, but it could be an interesting addition to apply for it.
For example if you reach 1k, 2k, or 5k followers, you will be able to request one in you settings page. And if you live up to some expectations and if your status on Gamejolt is important, admins give it to you (active on site, reports of stolen content, impersonation, public figure, or just if the person really deserves it). You'd need to accept a bunch of things maybe, and write about yourself.

Pro: Just giving people the possibility to request it would give people some hope, or objectives who knows.
Cons: Though if you want to keep the "Verified user" something of a big value, then this is not a good idea.
10.2 Having the badge displayed on the site
Yeah so I've realized that this feature was added this morning, sooooo I have literally nothing much to say.
But here are the website code edits I made:
Posts

Game pages

Comments

And actually @KniteBlargh ![]()
got verified this morning! This is some kind of black magic, I legit made these a few days ago. Cros you are scaring me, does Gamejolt have access to your computer files?

There is one thing that I have in store: what about the badge in the notifications? Someone sent me this:

Okay wow moving on, it's long...
11. Curators in communities
There should be some chosen and dedicated people who are taking these seriously and who could be featuring some posts in communities (I don't know what are your plans on communities, but there should be some curators around, and the staff could spend time on other things!)
These community curators could appear at the top of the page, along with the "People you know in this community" list.

12. Featured games on profile page
I remember @tricky
was talking about how he wanted to feature some games and not have some of them displayed on your Latest games section.
There should be a way to feature a game of your choice from your library, and also be able to add a little extra description to it:

The follow button at the top is optional, it might be a little bit too heavy design-wise.
13. Petition for @Truddy
to get the FOX name-tag

Ignore this... You can have fun sometimes, right?
14. Report posts
This feature is an important one. The report posts button hasn't been added yet, and I've realized that there is no way to report that if someone posts inappropriate/stolen/spam content.

Just the simple vertical ... would do it, exactly the same as for comments.
15. Pinning comments
I had a conversation with @nilllzz
about comments, shouts and how they are displayed.
Before you click on View all you have a preview of the messages. The shouts are ordered by their post date (newest first), and on games and posts, the comments with the most likes are displayed first.
Good, though I think the Pinned comment should alway be shown first, regardless of the order of display. Not only in the window that pops up when you click "View all", but also in the first place, in the first preview list too. Like this:

There could also be the same icon as in the windowed comments to indicate that something was pinned.
But I really think whatever is the case, it should always be on the top. It got pinned for a specific reason after all. Same with shouts!
16. Saved banners/header images for devlogs
On the devlog tab you are able to add images, and reuse them for future posts, such as headers, frequently used images...
The pic below explains it perfectly

And they would automatically appear on every devlog:

Pros: Beneficial for people and for Gamejolt databases
Cons: none, duh what did you think
You could also maybe add this for your own posts in the Edit profile tab, so it would work the same way with personal updates.
... phew almost done...
17. Custom splash background for builds
Since builds can be different from one another (for example a 2nd chapter of your game), it could be epic looking to add a background image for the builds like this:

It would really be cool to see this. Images for builds can be changed in the specific build's settings.
18. Privacy
I won't say much about this one, but I found it interesting. It was well summarized by the comments on this post. It's about who's able to see games you follow, or people you follow.
19. Random crown or form of gift from Gamejolt
For example this could be something nice to add for join anniversaries. Mine is in 2 days...
Let's see if something special happens.

20. Weird bugs and glitches
In other words, Gamejolt paradoxes.
I am on a mac and when I want to copy paste some text from somewhere, I hit Cmd+C to copy, but it opens the friend chats.
You cannot reach the bottom of the page. It's impossible to access the footer because each time I want to scroll down, posts are loading.
Chat messages should stays in the text box until it is sent. It can be disabled for example but it should stay there for a while. When I want to send a long message, and my internet decides to give up, I press enter and no traces of the message anymore. :') That means it's re-type time.
Rich text editor still not working on Mac+Firefox. When I click any of the (+) button's options, it takes it as a publish request and posts my message.
I have a lot more, but I'm... I'm just dead, I've been writing this post and making it for more than 6 hours.
I might continue if I see that it's worth the time!
PLEASE tell me what you think, all your opinions, if you took time to read it all, tell me which one is your favorite!
