I find it interesting to look back on how Undertale and Deltarune handles their humor cause they're both similar, but different (both insanely funny btw). Probably not the first person to appreciate this and this may be a cornplate thread, but...
With Undertale, I feel it balances its humor well. The game knows when to take itself seriously and when it should be lighthearted. From going on a pretend date with a silly skeleton, sneaking past scary fish lady, to learning about the truth. It's like a rollercoaster!

... But so you choose to go on a darker path, the game, notably the narration, understandably, gets more somber. You may not even notice it at first and it may only be noticeable on repeat playthroughs. I like these in particular!

Until eventually, all the whimsical descriptions go away and the narration starts counting enemies and stating the obvious. It's bored. It wants to move on already. As for Deltarune... I feel it's a lot more chaotic and silly, especially with characters like Susie, Berdly, and Queen especially. Toby has gotten a lot more confident with all the jokes and references, even outside of the game. It's great!

Even on the Snowgrave/ Weird route, it still has moments of humor. Toby even leaned more into it with later updates like adding the pissed off Spamton exploit/ challenge and Ms. Pipis!

And because of this, it makes moments when the game IS suddenly so serious a lot more powerful, personally! Love it.
man I love these quirky earthbound inspired indie rpgs about murder!
Anyways, stay soupy!! New art soon :)
